Oh No They Didn't!

On September 25th my favorite TV show of all time is coming back for its 5th season and I've already got my DVR and bottle of wine ready for my Thursday night indulgence. Looking online for sneak previews, I came across this clip and immediately I was thinking..."Oh no they didn't!"

Then I realized this is totally a dream sequence of some sort. Would they really get rid of McDreamy? Let's be honest, we'll see Izzie bite the dust before our favorite hot doc Derek.

Totally an off-course blog...but yall know I'm obessesed with the Grey's!!

Grey's Was Robbed

Indie Off Course:

Okay, I'm a lil sad that Grey's Anatomy did not get an Emmy nod for Best Drama. I guess this past season was either a lil weak or the Emmy folks had to make way for new dramas this year. I dunno. Still a lil upset.

I'm feelin Dexter though...so if there had to be another show to replace my Grey's for a nod then let it be cool serial killer show on Showtime. Lots of rumors about Katherine Heigl leaving the show too...but that turned out to be fiction. I guess she feels she's too big for TV. Being on the Oprah Winfrey show is a total ego booster. I would think my shit don't stink either if I was a guest on Oprah.

Anyways, we'll see what happens. I'm glad Sharon Gless got a nod as that crazy bitch on Nip/Tuck who was stalkling Sean. She was a psycho. That was a role of a lifetime. Whoda though she had it in her?

Here's a clip of what I'm talkin about below...what a freakazoid!

Tribeca Film Festival Review: Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha

Okay say this out loud 3 times fast. Ready? Go!

Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha
Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha
Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha

Did you say it aloud 3 times fast? Do you feel like an ass for saying it aloud and getting it wrong all three times? Well now you know how I felt after seeing this movie. A complete ass. Okay...maybe that's a bit extreme but my time could have been well spent watching another screening, but I chose this one specifically because the legendary Melvin Van Peebles was conducting a Q&A after the film. So even though I went in knowing absolutely nothing about the film I figured what the hell right? Movies like Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song are classics! Melvin's work has always been a little off-key so to speak so I wasn't that surprised when I left the screening having a WTF moment. I even found myself getting on the wrong train on the way home. I had become completely disoriented.

Anywho...so I really can't describe what the movie is about becuz there is no way to really explain it without it sounding completely confusing. So I'll just break it down in layman's terms: Melvin Van Peebles narrates this story (Dr. Suessian style) about his life as a 14 year old coming of age and living in the streets of New York City. Now Melvin Van Peebles plays himself....as a 14 year old. Yep you got it...he plays himself playing a 14 year old boy. See what I mean by bizarre? Then there are just these random people he meets aimlessly in his life who make no sense and serve no purpose other than to make a forced cameo as a favor to the filmmaker. Then there are all these psychedelic images of mosaics and colors that looks like a cheesy 70's porno. The music also has the cheesy 70's porn backdrop and I was expecting to see Linda Lovelace come out and do her thing. This was just weird for me. Perhaps becuz I don't understand the full scope of Peebles sense of avant garde and art that it just wasn't my cup of tea. But there are ways you can be experimental (Green Porno---will blog later) that is refreshing, creative, and simple.

I actually left the screening moments before the film ended and missed the Q&A becuz I realized there are more important things I should be doing with my time like catching a new episode of Grey's Anatomy...and its sad that I actually rush home to see a TV show that I already have set to DVR----but as you know I'm a bit of a compulsive-obsessive when it comes to the TV show. I mean damn I have an archive about a network TV show on an independent film blog. Anywayz..back to Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha. If you get the title and understand what it means....then maybe you'll get the movie. It's just that simple. Or maybe I'm just the moron. But to put it simply this movie was truly bizarre.

Let me tell you bout yo' self: Isaiah Washington

I just want ALL yall to know that this sistah right here only rides a wit a manual transmission, you know what I'm sayin? So when my gurl Tawandala wanted to take me to the Gay Pride Parade this weekend I was like..."hell to tha naw!"

But what should I happen to notice while watchin VH-1's Charm School ?(dem crazee chickenheads) I saw a news piece bout Isaiah Washington gettin all outta whack cuz he got fired from dat Grey's Anatomy joint.

I mean, I really never watched da show and never got what the whole big deal wit why so many folks like seein it. But I'm bout TYED a listenin to the news about him and da white dude TR Knight talkin about how the F word got used and he's against gay folks an all dat. I'ma keep it real, when I first heard about what happened, I wanted to look out for a brotha, cuz how many black doctors do you see on TV these days? And damn...how many black heart surgeons?? ZACTLY.

So then I decidez to read up on what's happenin cuz he used the F word again at da Golden Globes..that's when I was like...alll heeelll naw! I was thinkin I'm sorry brotha but you done put yo foot in yo mouth and now itz time ta go! Okaaayy? So even tho he went to rehab, made a public apology on a PSA, and supposedly worked wit Gay activists on for community work, I STILL wanted his ass fired!

Then Shonda (sista gurl) decides to be bold and let him go. Bout damn time! Now the brotha coulda just walked away quietly and hooked up wit his boy Spike Lee and do anotha movie. I mean damn how many Spike Lee movies has Isaiah been in anyway?

But what does this brotha decide to do??? He goes out on a rant (yea das my big word for tha day) and decides to call out TR Knight and tell the world that HE was the one that started this all in tha first place. That the cute lil gay boy conspired (mmm hmm Ima on a roll today) against him to get fired from the beginning and he was using the gay slur as a means to let him go.

Wha?? I mean is he forreal? I'm sorry Isaiah but you put yo foot in yo mouth not once but TWICE. Then you got that blond gurl from that Knocked Up movie sayin that you was wrong for callin her boy Knight dem names. You see what happens?

Isaiah---do us ALL a favor. Shut your ass up! Just don't speak. Cuz it seems like everytime you speak, you dig yoself in a deeper grave than before. Why don't start a career as a mime? They don't talk. It may do you some good brotha. And before you go why don't you roll wit me and my gurl Tawandala and go to tha Gay Pride Parade this weekend. I decided after writin you this letta that I'ma go. I'm here in NYC right now. Why don't u just hop on a jet from L.A. and come wit me to help redeem yoself.

I'm sure there's some fine brothas there. Even know we all know you don't roll dat way.

Truly Yours : Shaniqua, Alvarez, Jenkins

Who Should Be Cast in the New Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff??

So as you already know, Grey’s Anatomy---the best show in prime time television (according to Jamie) —is giving birth to a baby Grey’s Anatomy. In the TV world it’s called a "spin off".
Now, there have already been some actors attached to this show. We all know that
Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery) is going to leave Seattle and moving to Los Angeles (where the show is set to take place).

We also know that
Taye Diggs will play a doctor on the show. Not sure if he’s Addison’s love interest, or just a co-worker, but I’m sure eventually they’ll be knockin boots.

Here are ABC’s choices so far for the new L.A. doctors:

Kate Walsh (as Dr. Addison Montgomery)
Taye Diggs
Merrin Dungey (Sandy on Boston Legal)
Amy Brenneman (known from Judging Amy)
Chris Lowell (from the now canceled Vernoica mars)
Tim Daly (he was on that show Wings)
Paul Adelstein (from Prison Break)

Ok is it me or does this cast make you want to fall asleep? Damn what a Boring Vanilla ass, CBS movie of the week collective this is, if Shonda wants this show to be able to come out from under the shadows of its original jugguranaut hit then they will need to add some interesting actors into the mix.

So we at NYIndieSeen, feel that first and foremost, we should be Hollywood casting directors. I mean just look at our picks for Spider man 4…casting at its best right?

**Disclaimer: we include actors who we WOULD NOT cast in Spidey 4 too if u choose to browse that blog**

Now back to Grey’s…so here are our pick for who should be cast in the new Grey’s Anatomy spin off!!

Tamara Taylor – she’s the cutey from Party Of Five that got it on with Matthew Fox, she can play the neuro surgeon who cant find love, or something

Victoria Rowell – why not? She’s had experience playing a doctor on TV and she's definetly believable, plus I want to see her gettin it on with a babeolicious new intern!

Jonathan Jackson – As the hot young gay intern that needs to be shown the ropes…and we’re not talking medicine here! OKayyyyy

Lisa Bonet – Of course as the hippy dippy bohemian doctor whose penchant for Holistic medicine clashes with the hospitals practices.

Jay Hernandez – Six Degrees is canceled right? He needs a job, plus he could make for a fine ass doctor.

Boris Kodjoe – the sexy new resident…the ultimate eye candy!! , I think I'm catching a fever

Haley Joel Osment – remember Doogie Howser M.D.? It could work right? It be kinda scandalous if he got it on with one of the residents though!, Plus he sees dead people.

Marissa Tomei – she'd be the sassy independent surgeon, plus ,wouldn’t you want Marissa to operate on you?

Lindsay Price - As the young go getter intern with an imposing family (sorta like a Cristina-in-waiting)

Blair Underwood – the new McDreamy

Neve Campbell – I miss Neve! She needs to comeback to TV and star on this show! I can see her as a resident who gets caught up with an intern

Sarah Gilbert – the obligatory lesbian doctor who is willing to prove that her sexuality is only a trivial part of who she is, but she initiates a sexual awakening to some of the female doctors on staff

Meredith Salenger – Patrick Dempsey made an 80’s comeback why not Meredith? Plus she’s still cute and her nick name could be Dr. Dream a Lil Dreamette

Dennis Haskins – Chief of Staff. Okay, I know we could be going out on a limb..but wouldn’t it be cool if Mr. Belding was the chief? It would be high school all over again!!

Indie Pick O' The Day: Liberty Heights

This Barry Levinson film is a coming of age story about four friends in 1950’s Baltimore, Maryland. The film deals with racism and relationships. The protagonists are Jewish and run into anti-Semitic behavior among their peers whom they go to school with.

However, Ben a high school senior runs into more racial resistance when he starts dating Sylvia an attractive African-American student at his school. He really falls for this girl and even has to deal with the ignorant attitudes of his family members and friends.

Although this film sounds heavy and dramatic, its actually a lighthearted comedy. Some of the funniest moments in this film occur when Ben meets Sylvia’s parents for the first time and even when Ben and Sylvia attend a James Brown concert. If you look closely, you’ll notice that Sylvia’s father is none other than Dr. Richard Webber who is played by
James Pickens Jr. Yall don’t know who Dr. Webber is? Ok, time for Grey’s Anatomy 101…click here. Another Grey’s Anatomy alumni is in this film...Dr. Alex Karev. That’s Justin Chambers if you don’t watch Grey’s. He plays Trey Tobleseted. This was actually Justin’s first feature film.

Then the film stars
Joe Mantegna who has some gambling debt that he owes to a small-time drug dealer played by Orlando Jones (he also has Anthony Anderson as his sidekick). See, this movie isn’t exactly a drama..its really a comedy. My favorite scenes are with Jones and Anderson in their loan-shark business.

Last but certainly not least, is the yummy-skinny-but-sexy
Adrien Brody. He stars as Ben’s brother Van who is in love with Debbie. The perfect girl who he thinks is just too good for him. She of course doesn’t even realize he exists, but he does everything in his power to get noticed.
It’s a cute quirky film that has some sexy upcoming actors and a down-to-earth storyline about interracial relationships and the dynamics of high school cliques.

Indie Off Course: Grey's Anatomy

So last week the Indie Off Course discussion was that of the L Word. This week were talking about Grey's Anatomy the #1 prime time show in TV!!

Wow. This show is amazing. I mean this show has drama ON and OFF screen! That's how good it is. On what TV show do you know has fist fights off camera, homophobic slurs, pay raise issues, and more drama off camera than on?? No other show has what Grey's has which is why I love this freakin show.

So lemme tell you my story of how I came to know Grey's Anatomy. My friend from high school invited me over to her new townhouse and we had a lil get together and watched The 40 Year Old Virgin and drank martinis. Then she was tellin me about this TV show called Grey's Anatomy. I heard of the show, but never watched it. She was like, "Girrrl, you have to watch this show! There was an episode where they had a breakout of Syphilis and everyone in the hospital had to get tested becuz all the doctors were doin the deed with each other!" I was slightly impressed. I never heard of a storyline like that in prime TV.

Then she was like, "And the creator and head writer of the show is a sista!" I was even more impressed. This was quite groundbreaking. An African-American female showrunner? I wanted to see what this show was all about. The very first episode of Grey's Anatomy I saw was in its 2nd season and it was aired right after the Superbowl last year.

THE BOMB EPISODE.

I saw Christina Ricci on there and I was like, wow is she a regular on this show? And then I realized that she was playing a paramedic, which meant she probably was just a minor character. The episode was about this guy who was shot and the bullet had not yet imploded and was stuck inside of him. Any movement of the bullet would cause an explosion and the entire floor of that wing of the hospital the patient was staying in could be affected by the blast. Whoa! Good stuff!

I cringed during each moment of that episode, and then I realize that this was groundbreaking TV. Never had I been so glued to a TV show as I had that evening when I saw that episode. I felt robbed when the episode lasted an hour and stated the obligatory "to be continued" text at the bottom of the screen. I wanted the episode to go on for hours. I would have sat there and watched for hours if it aired that way.

Well the rest is history, as soon as I knew this was my new favorite show I went back and watched Seasons 1 and 2 on my iPod through iTunes. Watching Grey's everyday on the train ride to and from work was worth the long commutes each day. Now I'm all caught up and feel like I should be a part of this show I've invested so much time into watching it.

So let me introduce you to the employees of Seattle Grace Hospital:

Dr. McDreamy (aka Dr. Shepherd) - I loved Patrick Dempsey in Can't. Buy Me Love and think he is the hottest thing now that I see him on Grey's. He's the head of Neurosurgery and that means he gets paid the big bucks! He steals my heart everytime he makes an appearance on-screen. I love the fact that he is so smitten by Meredith Grey. He truly does love her, but he has relationship issues from a broken heart. His wife cheated on his fine ass for an even finer ass but we'll get into that later...

Dr. Cristina Yang - she is my favorite character. I think I like her so much because she's so career focused and has a hard edge. She's so competitive and strives to be number one at everything she does. I wouldn't be surprised if she became chief one day. I like her dry sarcasm too. I wish she would open up a little more emotionally though. I really think Preston cares about her, and she doesn't want to see what true love is all about. But I still love her.

Dr. Miranda Bailey (aka The Nazi) - she is by far the most REAL and true to life fictional character on this show. I think Bailey is the reason why people tune in. With so much fake stuff on TV these days, we yearn to have a little dose of reality. Even though this is a fictional drama, everyone knows a Miranda Bailey. She was either your teacher, doctor, lawyer, or MOM! She is the resident and head of all the interns. Don't get on her bad side otherwise she'll cut ya!

Dr. Alex Karev - He such an asshole. Sometimes I dislike him, sometimes I don't. It changes from one episode to the next, because he does have some redeeming qualities. He's hot though you gotta admit. He's got this bad boy quality that I'm very attracted to. You gotta admire that. I didn't like the way he treated Izzie though, and I'm curious to know how he's gonna treat Addison soon. However, he is one of the best interns and most dedicated to his profession.

Dr. Izzie Stevens - I love her. She's so sweet. She has a flaw which is she wears her heart on her sleeve. In the medical world that is considered a bit of a liability, but I actually respect that endearing quality. I'm just pissed off that she took that 8 million dollar check her dead boyfriend gave her and didn't spend one dime of it on herself! But that's where the unselfish part of her personality comes in. She always puts others before herself. A rare find.

Dr. George O'Malley - What a cutie! When I first saw him, I thought he kinda looked like John Mayer. But Mayer has a bigger head. Anyways, I love George. He's so nerdy and so shy and I love his innocent quality. He has this studder that is kinda cute too. I was mad at Meredith when she slept with him, he really deserves a girl that's gonna love him. He seems he would give his entire world for the woman he loves.

Dr. Preston Burke - I'm not so sure about him. Before the homophobe controversy, I didn't really like Dr. Burke. He just seemed a little standoffish and cold. I'm not sure where his head is at either. I think he is selfish in some ways, but has moments where he looks out for others. I truly do believe he cares for Christine, but I'm not sure where their relationship is going. I must admit, he's easy on the eyes though. I wonder if he's gonna continue to stay at Seattle Grace.

Dr. Richard Webber - Chief of Seattle Grace. He's like the patriarch of the show. Everyone seems to come to him for advice. However the Dr. has fidelity issues (like every other employee at grace). He left his wife for Meredith’s mom and now his wife has kicked him to the curb. Recently he dyed his hair black to look younger and attract da ladies. Now he’s stepping down as chief and hasn’t made a decision yet as to who is replacing him.

Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd – This Dr. has the best legs in television. She also is the best dressed doctor of the bunch. You will never see her wearing sneaks and a buttoned white overcoat…oh no! Addison wears stilettos, v-neck Versace tops and mini skirts. I love her style! She has a few skeletons in her closet. I think she’s a bit of a nympho if you ask me. Seems like she just desires sex. She left her loyal husband for McSteamy and now she’s tryin to get her some Alex! But it may all end soon, cuz now she’s gonna be the lead in a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. AAhh! I don’t know how to respond to that!

Dr. Callie Torres – She is an inspiration to big girls everywhere! I mean honestly she’s not big, she just a cute plus sized girl that caused some controversy when she appeared in only a shirt and underwear in a few episodes back. You don’t see plus sized women on TV walking around in just their underwear! Groundbreaking!! At first I wasn’t so sure about her, because she liked George and I thought that was lil odd, but now I realize she really does love the nerd. But does he love her back? I give Torres props for getting it on with McSteamy. She just picked him up at a bar and they did the deed. Guts girl guts!

Dr. Mark Sloane (aka Dr. McSteamy) – He is hot. I mean, his really close with McDreamy on the fine ass guy factor. I actually feel the same way as I feel towards Alex towards this guy. He’s an asshole one second, and then a nice guy the next. He likes to boss the interns around and treat them like PA’s on a film set. However, when it comes to da ladies, he gets a lil soft. I likez that. He really loves Addison, even though she doesn’t love him back. He needs someone to soften him up a bit. Hmmm…can I be cast on that show?

Dr. Meredith Grey – The lead intern and the reason why this show keeps going. The character’s are her arc and the stories revolve around her life and experiences as an intern at Seattle Grace. I like Meredith. She makes a good best friend. She’s an excellent intern and knows her stuff when it comes to surgery. It’s too bad she has so many abandonment issues. Her issues affect her relationships and friendships. But she’s making it through. I got scared for a second. Last week I thought they were gonna kill her off the show. Luckily, they just did the outer body experience thing. Shoo!

So have I expressed that I LOVE Grey’s Anatomy? Is there anything else that I could say that would convince you any further that I have an adoration for this TV show? No, I guess not. If you’re not convinced at this point, then you just skimmed through this blog, probably because there was too much text to read (which is not typical if an NYIndieSeen post). Not to mention this is a blog about film and not TV. But that’s why we created this archive to blog about other TV shows or misc stuff we find interesting.

Do I think there should be a Grey’s spinoff? NO. I think it’s gonna be TV suicide. BUT it’s not up to me to decide, it’s up to the rest of the 15 million viewers who watch Grey’s every week.

Do I think Isaiah Washington should leave the show? NO. The show won’t be the same without the cold, yet determined Preston Burke. He should be underpaid and scolded for saying homophobic remarks, but not fired.

Do I think Izzie should get a raise? YES. Katherine Heigl is a great actress and her star power is rising. Not to mention she was nominated for a Golden Globe this year. She should get paid comparable to what Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo are getting paid. Why are there different pay scales for each actor anyway? This is an ensemble show. There really is no stand out character on this program. If one character leaves, it will affect the show deeply. Which is why I’m so much against this “spinoff”.

But we’ll see. And ABC stop playing reruns dammit! At least WARN us if you are going to rerun an episode. I set aside my Thursday nights for this show, and I could have made other plans this week to hang out rather than sit at home and watch a Grey’s rerun. I must admit though, I sat and watch last night’s episode anyway. I’m such a dork.

John Mayer, An Aspiring Screenwriter?

Unless you've been living under a rock, or you just don't care, Isaiah Washington (Dr. Burke) from Grey's Anatomy has been under scrutiny this week for calling T.R. Knight (George) the "F" word (the homophobic slur f-word that is). Since uttering the word not once but twice there is speculation that ABC may fire him.

Well John Mayer has put in his 2 cents about the issue and thinks that the writers of the show should have Dr. Burke come out of the closet and admit he's gay. That way Washington can be forced to play the role of a homosexual man for the duration of the TV series.

Sound clever? Perhaps. However, John Mayer has posted a sample of how HE thinks the script should be written on his blog.

The writing is actually pretty good. Is John Mayer "coming out" as a screenwriter? Is this his next career endeavor? I guess it's convienent to use this public faux pa as a way to show the public you can write for TV as well as write songs.

Hmm...take a look at the blog and tell us what U think. We think maybe John Mayer should write for GA.

Aiight...I Can't Resist!!

I am stepping outside of the rest of the NYIndieSeen staffers and giving a quick shoutout to Grey's Anatomy for winning a Golden Globe last night for Best Television Series Drama!

I LOOOOOOOVE THIS SHOW!!!

And you know the Superbowl episode is gonna be the bomb!
