SEEN O' The Day: The Witches

Remember the movie The Witches??? It's one of my cult favorites!! Well in the spirit of our upcoming scary holiday, let's take a look at a scene from the classic 1990 film The Witches. The Witches is totally a kid's flick and it's not quite a horror film, but ya gotta admit, if you saw the transformation of Angelica Huston's character approach you in the dark , by yourself, at midnight, on Halloween...you'll be scared!

The scene is a little lengthy, but you gotta see the whole clip to appreciate the scene!

Old School Movie Review: Kids

There was a film released in 1995 by Larry Clark called Kids which was way ahead of its time when it was released. The film carried alot of controversy and was rejected by a number of film critics and moviegoers at film festivals. The film deals with a group of NYC slackers who spend a great deal of their time drinking, smoking, and sexing their girlfriends. However, the film goes far much deeper than that, especially when the protagonist of the story is HIV positive.

SEEN O' The Day: Manic

So haven't we all at one point had this conversation? Whether you're stoned with friends or leaving the movie theater after seeing a great superhero flick somehow the conversation wanders to...who is the greatest superhero of all time and why? The film Manic is about a juvenile commited to the wing of the Northwood Mental Institution. Several other guys are there with a variety of crazee problems. The hotness that is--JGL plays Lyle, who interacts with other patients and staff on a human, and sometimes not so human level. The psychological problems of the patients also forms the fabric by which we see what's right with them, and what's wrong with the society that affects them.

Look at the moments where JGL looks over at the girl...but its almost like he's flirting with the camera instead. Sometimes he doesn't even have to say anything and his performance is solid. :::SIGH:::

Here is the scene where they discuss at length superheroes and their abilities and inabilities as crime fighters.

SEEN O' The Day: Kissing Jessica Stein

This is a hilarious 2001 film set in NYC about a conservative uptight journalist who curiously answers a female looking for female personals ad.

The film's stars Heather Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt wrote the screenplay.

In this scene she reveals to her best friend that she is dating another woman. I LOVE the last line in this scene...great film!

Art Eerily Imitates Life

The IndieSEEN O' The Day is from the film Candy released back in 2006. The film stars the late Heath Ledger.

In one of the few films where Heath keeps his beautiful Aussie accent, Candy is about a man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin.

The film also stars Abbie Cornish and Geoffrey Rush.

21 Grams: Mercy

This scene is with the amazing Benicio Del Toro dealing with his demons and speaking bible scriptures that validates the sins that he committed were God's will. It's a very powerful scene and speaks volumes to Del Toro's work as an actor. Excellent scene.

You Ain't Real

This is a a good movie. It's kinda sad too cuz I actually know kids like this. Privledged kids tryin to act all hard in their upper crust-spoon fed lives and think by going into the "hood" they can prove their worth in the world. This scene is between Freddy Rodriguez (yumz) and Anne Hathaway (who gets nude in the flick). Freddy tell her that she aint and she's just a wannabee for trying to hang out in East L.A. when her home is Pacific Palisades.

Did I mention JGL is in this film too??

SEEN O' The Day: My Own Private Idaho

Before Brokeback there was Idaho. This is the classic scene with Keanu Reeves (back when he could act) and River Phoenix (R.I.P) sitting in front of the campfire discussing their home lives. However, in this scene Mike (played by Phoenix) pours his heart out to Scott (Reeves) and admits that he is in love. According to IMDB this campfire speech was actually written by River Phoenix himself...

SEEN O' The Day: Cruel Intentions

This is by far the best scene in this film!


In the original cut of this scene , Ryan Phillippe's "Sebastian" character was supposed to bitch slap Buffy after she revealed her sinister plot and then attempt to rape her. However the studio did not like that version, because it no longer made Sebastian a compassionate character.
Umm news flash, Valmont isnt supposed to be a compassionate character he's supposed to be a vile, lecherous, creepster. The Original scene can be found on the DVDs deleted scenes section and adds a much more complex and ambigous tone to the film. Not just your typical good guy Vs bad guy scenario Hollywood is so comfortable with shoving down our throats.
I guess the 15 year-old girls, Sony was banking on to make the movie a hit dont wanna see there precious Sassy magazine Cover boys attempting rape.

thank god for independent films where at least the directors vision can win out over the big studios constant obsession with the Bottom Line.
This Movie is still Majorly Gnarls though.

Guilty Pleasure SEEN O' The Day

Don't act like yall don't know about this movie. This is by far one of the BEST guilty pleasure films of ALL time! Sometimes I wish cheesy craptacular films like this were still made.

Well, I guess we always have a Mariah Carey movie to look forward to.

The hilarious queen of indie cinema Miss Parker Posey is cracks me up in this scene. This is one of the best of the Christopher Guest mocumentaries Best In Show.

SEEN O' The Day: Red Speaks To Parole Board

One of the best films ever made this scene is when Red (played by Morgan Freeman) states his case of being rehabilitated in front of the Parole Board. He's completely jaded at this point after being rejected for parole for years and years during the course of his prison sentence. Instead of telling them what they want to hear, he speaks from his heart.

A heartbreaking scene about government oppression and bigotry from the dazzling and brilliant James McTeigue film, V for Vendetta if you haven't seen it yet, well first of all have you been living under a rock?
and second, get thee to a video store pronto.

SEEN O' The Day: "Suntory Time" Lost In Translation

This is by far the funniest and illustrious scenes from this film. It truly depicts what this movie is about. It deals with cultural and language differences not only in foreign countries, but differences in communication within ourselves.

From the 2001, Larry Clark film Bully, this scene See's Nick Stahl becoming the victim of a conspiracy by his friends to murder him.
Brutally entertaining, Bully is in my opinion Larry Clark's best effort to date, surpassing even his most notable feature: KIDS, the film stars Michael Pitt, Nick Stahl, and Bijou Phillips.

Seen O' the day: Scream 2:Buffy Bites the Dust

In this scene from the 1998 hit Wes craven Horror sequel, Perennial Vampire slayer , Sarah Michelle Gellar, meets an untimely fate. Love the Pacing, Love the crackling dialogue, and the suspense is a little weak but this is definitely one of the best scenes from the Movie

SEEN O' The Day: Drugstore Cowboy

In this scene, Bob, played Matt Dillion gets high after he gets his daily dose of heroin while his girlfriend Dianne drives and curses at other drivers on the road. For the first time you see the mind of Bob and why he chooses heroin as a part of his lifestyle.

Drugstore Cowboy won the Independent Spirit Award in 1990 for Best Screenplay.
