Someones taken their love of Scream movies one step too far.

I'm a pretty damn cool guy, I rock my leather jackets collar up. I wear my pants sagged down so that my stained polka-dot boxers peak out from underneath. I'm usually cold and aloof about my feelings, I sprinkle words like "totes" and "gnarly" into everyday conversation. I also (insert one more bad ass thing here) . Basically, I'm the coolest thing under the sun. But nothing brings the secret dork out of me like a Scream movie.
Those damn Scream movies! It's the one series (X-men excluded) that can put me into full tilt Fan boy mode. I check the websites for the latest updates. I feed on production gossip like it sustains me and yes I even frequent the fan forums to dissect, argue and even countdown to the latest happenings of our beloved Woodsboro crew. I nerd out, I admit it. I've come to terms with it. Scream is the Star wars of horror films and I'm sleeping overnight at the ticket booth dressed as Princess Leia. Between Kevin Williamsons razor-sharp scripts, Wes Cravens brisk and tormenting at the drop of a dime eye, and a trio of characters I've grown to love, these films are cinematic crack.
The fascination started at 13, captivated by the commercials for this R rated film, that seemed so taboo and so painfully cool at the same ti
me. Months after its initial run in theaters I was finally able to see it, (thank you early pay-per-view) It hooked me. It was the horror movie that was smarter than horror movies. These characters existed in our world. It was approachable horror and it opened the floodgates for my love of the genre, something I will always be grateful to the series for doing.
Riveting
, Shocking and addicting all at once. Scream delivered!
When news of casting for the
sequel began to leak, and I learned that my favorite ingénue at the time, Sarah michelle-gellar (Swans Crossing 4Life!) , and an actual black person would be in it, Jada Pinkett (giving Ms. Drew a run for her money) They had me, hook line and sinker.
After seeing scream 2 opening night (thanks mom), I was officially full on obsessed.

A sequel that in my opinion was better than the original!
Kevin Williamson became my god, and I discovered a new fascination with celluloid.
It would surprise those who aren't fans of the series to know how many people of my generation the Scream films have inspired to become writers and filmmakers. There is an energy about the movies, a freshness that I liken to Tarantino’s early oeuvre.
Naturally, as Scream 3 reared it's head I devoured every new piece of informati
on I could. Kevin Williamson was too busy, with his new television series Wasteland, to pen the third and reportedly final installment. So they brought in Ehren Krueger (the Ring, Arlington Road), to write the script, big mistake!. I won't recount all the hoopla and drama associated with this decision .. It’s been discussed ad-nauseum on-line, simply search "Scream 3 mess" . The Series suffered, Ehren just didn't get "it". The voice, the intelligence of the first two films was muffled by a clichĂ©' ,Scooby doo mystery vibe. Scream 3 disappointed critically and was the least successful of the original trilogy. Scream had become what it was sent out to kill, what should have ended the Iconic series with a bang ended in a whimper.
Kevin Williamson, is Scream; period. That is why fans rejoiced when we'd learned that he would be returning for sole writing duties on Scream 4. The voice was back! Kevins idea for the 4th film was apparently so good it convinced the ever weary star of the Scream films Neve Campbell, Wes Craven, Courtney Cox and David Arquette to return Everyone was back.
Now
11 years after Scream 3, an excitement that I have not felt for the release of a film since , well the third one, has returned. Stronger than ever. I'm trolling the forums. I'm buying the Limited edition magazine covers and Dammit I'm counting down till the release of this epic series. (there are red X’s on my wall calendar if you wanna take a look). Will it be worth the wait? Early test screenings have been incredibly positive, most reviews calling it the best of all the sequels... seeing as how much I loved Scream 2, that's saying a hell of a lot. With a fresh new cast that includes Alison brie, Emma Roberts, Hayden Pantierre, Adam Brody, Veronica Mars, and a bunch of actresses from CW shows that I'm too old to watch, buzz is deafening for Scream 4, and I'm not ashamed to admit that if you listen close enough, you can hear my voice among them.
Scream 4
comes out April 15th!

Early Review: The Duchess

NYIndieSeen attended tonight's preview screening of The Duchess starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes. The film is based on the true events of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. The story takes place in 18th century England where appearances mean everything. Georgiana finds herself being married hastily to the Duke of Devonshire--a man she barely knows. Unfortunately his only intentions for her is to bear his child. He has no love or compassion for his new wife. Feeling lonely, Georgiana befriends Bess Foster--who catches the Duke's eye. Behind closed doors lies buried secrets and Georgiana one night hears passionate noises behind one of them. Her best friend Bess and her husband! Oh the scandal!

However the scandalous story gets even better when Bess moves in as the Duke's mistress and a 3rd party marriage has now begun.

The performances are pretty good. Keira Knightley---who's weight sometimes scare me---gave a compelling performance. Ralph Fiennes, as always, had a stunning role. The movie is definitely an interesting brand of English tea from scandal, sex, lies, debauchery, and even a little girl on girl action. Overall its a must see and will probably get some Oscar nominations for best hair and makeup or something. Those period piece movies usually do. The Duchess will hit theaters nationwide Oct 3rdth.

Check out the movie trailer here if you haven't seen it already:

Early Review: The Family That Preys

Tyler Perry has officially redeemed himself. I was gettin a lil scurred cuz I payed $9.50 (not in NYC) to see Meet The Browns and really wanted my money back. However, tonight at the premiere of The Family That Preys, I saw a film that is by far one of Perry's best. Now for you Madea fans out there--you won't see her make a cameo or notice the eccentric sense of humor that comes with her films. Instead you will see a "Dynasty-esque" drama about two families torn between greed and scandal. Each family deals with it in their own unique way and fate seems to twist and turn itself into something unexpected on both ends in this melodramatic tale.

The film has stunning performances from Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard who should hear the name Oscar calling them repeatedly after delivering a magnifying spectacle in this film. My personal favorite performance was from that of underrated actress Taraji P Henson who was not only the comic relief of the film, but also a great balance between both families.

The Family That Preys was inspired by "an old country song" Perry said at the movie premiere. He stated that he wants to make films that inspire people and make people think and analyze about their own lives. He also says to "always live for today". This film will most certainly force you to reassess your own personal situation and know that every action you take in this life has a consequence....good or evil.

The film hits theaters nationwide September 12th.

It's Official: Machete Is Coming to DVD

Since Netflix cancelled my account (cuz I don't know how to pay a credit card bill on time) I will wait in line at Blockbuster to rent or buy a copy of Machete. The movie trailer kicked ass and I KNOW it's gonna be a surefire hit.

Rodriguez...besides Tarantino is a cinematic genuis and to make this amazing film go straight to DVD is also smart marketing tactic. With all the internet buzz and the hastiness of fans like me to see this film, sales and rental profits will skyrocket. It may even do better than Grindhouse itself.

Unfortunately Grindhouse flopped at the box office which is one of the mysterries of the unknown that I will never figure out. But anywayz...this poster looks awesome! And the film will be even BETTA.

Tarantino Goes After New Pussy

Quentin Tarantino who is by far the best filmmaker EVER is going to remake 60's soft-porn cult classic "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!".

Since GrindHouse, Tarantino is very interested in making campy-sexy horror thrillers. The original film was about three thrill-seeking strippers who come upon a couple in the desert. Killing the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and hide out on a secluded ranch owned by a wheelchair-bound redneck farmer and his two dim-witted sons. Trying to locate the man's hidden fortune, they seduce the sons to learn of the secret - soon all hell breaks loose.

Tarantino wants his version to be even raunchier. That's why we love him---and only for that reason. His choices in casting is lackluster we must say. His first choices are Kim Kardashian, Eva Mendes and none other than Britney Spears for the roles. YUCK!!!

Here's what NYIndieSeen would pick as the Pussy leads:

Jennifer Beals---she certainly knows ALL about being a Pussycat these days!

Angelina Jolie---I know I know...so typical. But why the hell the not? I would love to see her in a Tarantino flick.

Aishwarya Rai--- What about the hot Bollywood chic? Time for her to do more A-list crossover American flicks.

Christina Milian---I don't like her acting per se...but I'm curious to see how she would do in a soft core porno.

Stacey Dash--Where did she go? Has anyone seen her? Let's bring her back to the big screen!

The Best Fuckin Movie EVER!

Yea, I said it. And yea, I cussed. So what? It's 2:30 a.m. and I just got back from an early screening of Grindhouse. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST FUCKING MOVIE I EVER SEEN!!!!

I mean, I already expected this film to be "da shiznit". After all Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's cinemanerdiness is all over this film. I refuse to break down the plot to these films because you just have to go see it. This ain't no movie review...this is a get up off your ass and go see this fuckin movie DEMAND.

Ok, I'll stop cussin and keep it cool, cuz H.P. Mchatey already did that for us earlier. However, I want you to know one thing, if you don't like blood, guts, kick ass fight scenes, gratuitous violence, sexy love montages, obligatory nudity, car chases, redneck one-liners, bad acting, jump cuts, lesbian love, overdone makeup, big hair, big asses, men's balls, turkeys, movie trailers, and missing reels footage---then I'm guessin you probably won't like this movie.

So the movie opens today....yes today is now Friday and you all need to RUN to go see it. Not walk RUN. It was so funny, becuz in the theater the usher told us to go upstairs to theater 4 to see it and I SWEAR people were running to see this flick! I've never seen so many grown ass men and women running to see a movie. So don't get left behind...see what's goin on over at the Grindhouse.

You're Fired!!

We can all relate can't we? It's a part of the human condition. At one time in ALL of our lives we have worked at a job and GOT FIRED.

So this witty actress-turned-author-turned filmmaker decided to document everyone's experience of being fired by interviewing industry people such as Tim Allen, Andy Dick, and Judy Gold about their own personal experiences being fired in the industry or otherwise.

The idea of the film started when actress Annabelle Gurwitch was fired from a play by Woody Allen. She thought about what damage can happen to one's career by being fired by a cultural icon? Turning to friends in showbiz, she was ssured she was not alone. She decided to go on a journey to answer the question: is fired the best thing or the worst thing that could happen in one's life?

The film is currently being screened at:

City Cinemas Village East

Blood, Guts, and Sluts!

Quentin Tarrantino and Robert Rodriguez those genuises of indie filmmaking are teaming up once again to bring you GrindHouse being released in April this year. It's a pretty cool concept. In typical Rodriguez-Tarrantino style, they pay homage to B-movie explotation films. Grindhouse, also known as Grindhouse cinema or trash cinema, are a genre of movies that throw out all that arthouse bullshit out of the window and sensationlizes excessive sex, violence, and gore.

We know its sort of a long way off, but we are counting the days until this bad boy gets released!! GrindHouse is two movies presented as "Planet Terror" directed by Rodriguez and "Death Proof" directed by Tarrantino. Here's just a sample of what this film has to offer:

Rose McGowan has a amputated leg that serves as a machine gun

Kurt Russell owns a car that kills and stalks beautiful women

An outbreak of infected sickos take over a small town

Killer zombies ravage a community

Ok now here's the kicker! The scenes in the movie are presented as a montage of movie trailers. What will these guys think of next? Dontcha love it?? Or do you hate it? Either way, this will be another Kill Bill/ Sin City obession for the 2007 summer blockbuster year!

Just a teaser of what Grindhouse has to offer

This is gonna be a good one!

The king of the cool Himself Samuel, "Snakes on a Motherfucking Plane" Jackson stars as a southern religious nutcase who takes a slutty christina "Wednesday Addams" Ricci, Prisoner until she repents for her sins in the new flick Black Snake Moan,
Basically, She wakes up from a stupor one day chained in his house and he forces her to confront her past, before he will set her free.
They end up having sincere heart to hearts about their lives or some shit, where each one of them learn more about themselves and each other and grow as people and most likely come to life changing realizations and yada, yada, yada.

All I know is we've got a chained up white girl and Mace, Motherfucking, Windu with a shot gun.
Just checked out the
trailer and it looks friggen gang busters!
(if you block out the parts where Justin Timberlake randomly pops up and throws the Whack juice all over everything.)

The movie is directed and written by Craig Brewer who previously did
Hustle and Flow: the flick that won Three 6 Mafia an academy award and gave us THIS Shining moment in Academy history.
Needless to say I will be checking this one out when it hits theatres February 23rd, or maybe I'll just give it a couple of days and catch it at the local BlockBuster.
Either way its worth a Look. Plus ya gotta love that title.
heres hoping that we get a good dose of F bombs from Sammy
