She’s like a friend in my head. So I could totally see myself having a shopping date with Kerry Washington. She’s just that kinda girl. You know the one who you can always rely on to be there if you just wanna go out and do some randomness? “Let’s go to the movies, let’s go shopping, let’s spy on that hottie that works at American Apparel”. She’s just that kinda girl who you can chill with. Oh yea, and she just so happens to be a pretty damn good actress. Luckily Kerry is not letting Hollywood sleep on her. It seems like this chick comes out with 2 or 3 movies every year. She’s a hardworking kinda gal.

She’s been in some really great movies too. I love it when Kerry goes the indie route because it seems like she’s at her best in films like United States Of Leland and The Dead Girl. If you ever need research on how to play a character that has been completely washed out by drug use…look at Kerry at her best in The Dead Girl. I mean she’s of course done well in blockbuster films like Ray and Last King Of Scotland. She just knows how to work it!

And man does she work it! She’s piping hot! And totally single for you fellas out there. I think she was involved with the little kid from the movie Big…remember that guy? Kerry Washington is our NY neighborhood friend with roots in The Bronx. She graduated from Spence School here which is a well known institution for Hollywood actors.

Kerry will be back in theaters on September 19th in a new riveting film starring Samuel L Jackson and Patrick Wilson called Lakeview Terrace. We already envy Kerry because she got to have hot steamy sexy time action with fine ass Patrick Wilson. All I gotta say is Patrick Wilson can totally get it. Nuff said right there. Anyways, the film is about An LAPD officer who will stop at nothing to force out the interracial couple who just moved in next door. The movie trailer looks hot too. Look for the scene with Wilson and Washington getting it on in the pool. You’ll find yourself need a cool glass of water afterwards.

Kerry, we love you for being a great actress and making us all feel like you could be our bestest friend! Keep it hot girl. You’re definitely an A-lister to us!!

80's Nostaligia Time: Hunk

OMG I sooo remember this movie. I had a total crush on Hunk Golden. He looked exactly like my Ken doll and I remember naming my Ken doll Hunk Golden whenever he took barbie out on dates....uuhhh okay TMI I guess. But remember this movie about this nerd who is a complete loser and wants to become uber cool and makes this deal with the Devil who looks a lil like Kelly Lebrock??? She turns him into a complete hunk!!

So whatever happened to the actor who playd Hunk Golden? I IMDB'ed him and he's not soo hunky anymore. But he could still get it. I'll be his Barbie if asked me to.

Brody and Wright in the same Movie??? SAY IT AINT SO!

So 2 of our IndieSeen Favorites Adrien Brody and Jeffrey Wright will be starring in a film 2gether called Cadillac Records. So of course we plan on going to the screening openin-freakin nite! Originally Matt Damon was set to star in the anticipated flick but bowed at the last minute and Brody took over. Thank Gawd....kinda tired of seein Matt Damon's punchbag face (don't his face look a lil squished in??). He needs the break anyway...

So Jeffrey Wright---the most underrated extremely talented God-given gifted human being in all of cinema is also starring which is always a movie worth looking forward to. Adrien has taken on the role of Leonard Chess, and Wright will be Muddy Waters in the feature, which starts filming in March. They will be joined by Columbus Short (Stomp the Yard), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Cedric the Entertainer (Code Name: The Cleaner), and Tammy Blanchard (Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows).

Oh yea...but there's one more thing...Beyonce Knowles is playing Etta James. Fuuuuuucccckkk!!!! Okay sorry, but damn we were on a roll here! We have some talented A-list Academy Award and Tony Award winning actors in the lead roles and then casting had to fuck up and bring Beyonce into the picture. We're not hatin or anything...but really...who says this girl can act? She should stick to singing Bootylicious anthems and being Jay-Z's damaged goods. OUCH. Well yall know what we mean....

Anyways, we just don't understand why why why Beyonce should be cast when there are some MAJORLY talented sistas out there who should have played Etta James. Does NYIndieSeen need to bust out with casting suggestions as to who should have played the role? I mean we can if yall want us too...but we're gonna have to start charging.

Well we'll see how this pans out. If Beyonce fails miserably as an actress (and I'm quite sure she will) then perhaps Hollywood will finally see that seeing her on celluloid is a complete waste of time....and money.

My New TV Addiction: Nip/Tuck

For some of you that actually read this blog and know a bit about it's history....occasionally I "blog-out" about my favorite TV show in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD: My Grey's :)

BUT NOW....I have a new crack addiction. I mean really this show is like crack for me. I have to have a hit. And I went so far as to BUY all 4 seasons of the show becuz its that damn good. Nip/Tuck was birthed by Ryan Murphy and has aired on the FX network for the past 5 years. I know I'm a little late to the game, but the show is really the shit. Plus they use the word shit! Like...alot. The verbal profanity is not the reason I like this show it's actually a man who I worship and adore: CHRISTIAN TROY. You gotta see Christian work his magic from episode to episode. He's the mack. He can get any woman, anytime, anywhere. He's an amazing surgeon, he's ripped, and I've seen his ass more times than Ron Jeremy's and trust me...that's a MAJOR improvement...let me just tell you. For those of you living under rocks that know absolutely nothing about this show, Nip/Tuck is about two plastic surgeons. Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are running a partnership in Miami, Florida with different issues to life.


Sean is a wishy-washy, weak-kneed, family man who distances himself with work to avoid his dysfunctional home life which includes his needy and spiteful wife Julia, his rebellious teenage son Matt and young daughter Annie. The more slicker Christian is an arrogant, narcissistic, unethical, ladies man who worships wine, women, and the all mighty dollar, and will do just about anything to get what he wants (lie, cheat, steal, blackmail and seduce)and has no qualms about practically anything.

In Season 5 of the series the two doctors moved their practice to Los Angeles and now work on a Grey's Anatomish type series drama as medical consultants. Currently though Sean McNamara has asked to be a series regular on the show. Of course the cocky-Christian is pretty pissed off about it.... I am deprived on my Grey's now becuz of the Writer's Strike and I have a few more episodes to go on Nip/Tuck...including watching the rest of Season 4. This is an indie-off course topic which is why it's been archived that way. Any show that has raunchy sex on EVERY episode, serial psychopaths, out of this world surgeries (like getting a woman's clit replaced), and seeing Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh's ass every five minutes...is definitely something worth blogging about. Nuff said.

Indie Pick O' The Day: Bella

One Life Can Change You Forever...

That is tag line for the Mexican film Bella directed by Alejandro Gomez Monteverde. This is a subtle film about life, loss, and family. When Jose, who is an international soccer star is on his way to sign a multi-million dollar contract and twist of fate and tragedy occurs that changes his life forever. He later finds himself working as a chef in his brother's restaurant. Jose's brother Manny treats Jose as well as the staff as slave drivers in the restaurant, including Nina, a down on her luck waitress who gets some inconvenient news. Nina finds herself running late for work after she takes a home pregnancy test and realizes she is now expecting. Unfortunately for Nina, her tardiness causes her to get fired and Jose feels sorry for Nina and feels the need to reach out to her.


Nina and Jose form a connection in each of their own disconnected lives and both deal with their own regrets and try to heal. Okay I liked this film and all, but I gotta say one thing Jose, played by Eduardo Verástegui is H-O-T. And YES he could TOTALLY GET IT. I mean this film has a deep message and is very well written and got lots of awards and stuff, but all the while I just kept on checking out Eduardo thinking...damn is he single?

Just to show you want I'm talking about, click here to see what his fine ass looks like. He was in that craptacular flick Chasing Papi if anyone of you out there ever seentz it. I only watched it becuz I was bored out of my mind one night and there was absolutely nothing to watch. I shoulda just watched paint dry. But seeing Eduardo's screen time was worth it. He's come up since CP, so you definitely have to check out Bella. Another cool thing about the film are the shots of New York City and how its so contemporary with NYC life. There's a scene that takes place on the train that every New Yorker can relate to. There is also a poignant scene with a blind homeless man that is very touching. It's amazing what happens when you take the time out of your busy hectic NY schedule to talk to a homeless guy on the street. It's not always what it seems...

Ugly Sexy: Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro is the epitomy of ugly sexy.

Ya know that category of men who are kinda grimy and ruff at times, but can clean up real well and the sexiness comes thru?

Or those guys that look ruff as hell, but still have that sexy swagger and don't even try hard to do it?

Benicio is one of those guys.

He was the clean cut white collar personal assistant to Kevin Spacey in Swimming With The Sharks.

Then he was Benny, the friend of the heroin-addicted painter in Basquiat

Then he played mumbling thief Fred Fenster in The Usual Suspects.

We certainly can't forget his performance as good cop with a conscience in Traffic.

However, one of his most strongest performances to date was the guilt ridden drunk driver in 21 Grams.

We love Benicio. He's won an Oscar, Golden Globe, and not one but TWO Independent Spirit Awards.

Did you see him in Things We Lost In The Fire??? He was soooooo sexy. He may have another Oscar on his hands too becuz of that performance. Does anyone know if this man is single? FINE THANG that he is....he could get it.

We not only love him because he makes for good eye candy. But we love his style, acting, and humility as an actor in Hollywood. Keep on keepin on.

IndieSeen Favorite: Mark Ruffalo

I remember the first time I saw Mark Ruffalo was in this indie film called You Can Count On Me. The film was great and had a heatwarming story, but I must honestly say that Mark Ruffalo’s performance was what drove the film to me. I liked his mumbling reserved character and I felt so much empathy for this guy who was trying to do right in his self-destructive life. He has this innocent-like quality to all of his roles that is so appealing.

I found out Mark Ruffalo lived in my hometown of Virginia Beach for several years and after high school he moved out San Diego. He actually attended classes at the Stella Adler Conservatory and co-founded the Orpheus Theatre Company. Smart guy. He was a struggling artist though just like the rest of us and bartended for several years to make ends meet.

Mark has had a phenomenal career. After working on the NY indie hit You Can Count ON Me, he went on to star in films such as XX/XY, View From The Top, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and 13 Going On 30.

Can I just say he was sooo adorable in 13 Going On 30? It’s one of the favorite guilty pleasure movies of all time. I only say guilty pleasure because it’s a commercial film with Jennifer Garner as its lead star, not really my forte…but I love the movie nonetheless. His film right now Zodiac is leading at the box office. The film Zodiac the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s.

He’s enjoyable to watch and I look forward to seeing his next film.

IndieSeen Favorite: Adrien Brody

He’s sexy. Yea, I know he’s all skinny and stuff but still. He has a charisma that many actors just don’t have.

I mean, he’s not your stereotypical pretty boy sexy, but he’s got sex appeal that just translates on screen in every film he’s in. I remember seeing Adrien Brody in this indie film called Restaurant. I was surprised because Lauryn Hill was in and I was like, WTF? He actually played her ex boyfriend in the film...hotness. He also resumes another interracial relationship with Elise Neal in the film. It’s basically about these New Jersey waiters who dream of becoming actors…sounds all too real right? Then he was the little Jewish boy in Liberty Heights. He was sooo cute. This Barry Levinson film was about race relations in 1950s Baltimore. It dealt with all issues of your typical coming of age film from anti-semitism to interracial dating.


Then he was in another indie film called Dummy. Its an odd quirky film about a ventriloquist who’s life is lived through his dummy who he keeps on knee and to his heart as he lives his dysfunctional life. However, Adrien’s life was about to change after he finished filming Dummy. He went on to star as the lead in a film called The Pianist.

The film is about a Polish Jewish musician who struggles to survive the Holocaust in World War 2. His performance was mesmerizing and everyone was fooled that the accent was fictional. I mean…I knew that becuz I saw him in Liberty Heights. However, Adrien didn’t become a movie star until The Pianist was released and he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Of course after that he went on to make one A list movie to the next. Films like
The Village, King Kong, and Hollywoodland just to name a few. He’s currently here in NYC filming Darjeeling Unlimited. This Queens-bred boy with a strong affinity for hip hop, can always be seen walkin the streets of New York.


I hoped to be grabbed like Halle if I present an Oscar to him…

IndieSeen Favorite: Jeffrey Wright

I LOVE this man.

The first time I saw Jeffrey Wright was in this indie film called Basquiat. I thought it was one of the most accurate and real portrayals of a non-fictional character. He WAS Jean Michel Basquiat. I think what amazed me the most is he depicted him with such subtlety. It wasn’t over the top or rigid. It was seamless and flawless and I knew he was someone I needed to focus my attention towards.

Like it is stated on IMDB, Jeffrey Wright is by far one of the most underrated and underexposed actors in Hollywood. Perhaps exposure for Jeffrey himself, is not his intentions, which is why the bulk of his work in predominantly has been films in the independent circuit. However, he is considered to be A-list talent, and if you’re an indie filmmaker, you better have a damn good resume and an impressive body of work to even CONSIDER having him cast in your next film. He’s a forced to be reckoned with.

Born and raised in Washington DC, Wright graduated from the prestigious Amherst college in 1987. Although he studied Political Science while at Amherst, Wright left the school with something that would prove to be more valuable: a love for acting. Shortly after graduating he won an acting scholarship to NYU, but dropped out after only two months to pursue acting full time.

Good thing he did, because then we wouldn’t have this great talent to model after in cinema. He went onto star in several films including Shaft as the unforgettable Peoples Hernandez (I really thought he was Hispanic when I saw that), and he played Martin Luther King Jr. in HBO made for TV movie Boycott. Another unforgettable made for TV movie by HBO he starred in was the multi-award winning film Lackawanna Blues. In 2005, he starred in the independent film Broken Flowers with Bill Murray. His ego is not too big to still go indie, which we love. However, because he such a phenomenal star, he’s in big budget films like Syriana, Casino Royale, and the upcoming Live Free or Die Hard movie.

It seems like he becomes a chameleon in every role he’s in. He truly becomes vulnerable and falls deep into the characters he plays. My favorite performance of his by far was as the flamboyant Belize who provides medical assistance to a dying AIDS patient played by Al Pacino in the HBO film Angels In America. Even playing beside Al Pacino, Wright somehow manages to steal the scene. I never knew it was possible to upstage (and I mean that in a good way) Al Pacino. However, Wright certainly does in Angels. If you have not seen Angels In America you MUST rent that and it is available on Netflix.

Whatever Happened To Taimak?

Hey, so Taimak didn't exactly acquire world class fame, but he's remembered most from his role as Leroy Green in The Last Dragon . Wow, thatz taking it back ain't it? Remember that movie with Vanity?

Vanity...wow we should totally do a Whatever Happened to Her archive right?

Anyways, when I did a Google search on Taimak I came across his own website. And can I just say, DAMN he's hot!!! Wow age has done him well. And according to IMDB he actually worked last year. He was in a film called They're Just My Friends with Malik Yoba. His character was Captain Taimak? Ok, has anyone seen this movie? Please let us know about it because it sounds kinda interesting. I must admit with guilt that I'm sorta intrigued.
