An IndieSeen Favorite Gets Arrested

So for those of you who haven't heard an IndieSeen favorite was arrested this past weekend in Shreveport, LA. Actor Jeffrey Wright and actor Josh Brolin were arrested along with five other member's of Oliver Stone's film crew on Sunday.

The film simply titled "W." is about guess who...the jackass who is currently running this country. Anyways, police were called to the Stray Cat bar after 2 a.m. to deal with a rowdy patron, the Shreveport Times reports. Brolin, Wright and several others reportedly tried to halt the officers' involvement in the brawl and were later charged with interfering with police.

According to reports, there is video of the incident. It reportedly shows Jeffrey getting tasered and pepper sprayed several times by the cops as he lay on his stomach in the street. WTF??!?? They pepper sprayed Jeffrey Wright? WTF is wrong with this country when you taser and spray down a Golden Globe Award winning actor??!? Did these cops not know who the hell they were dealing with? I hate cops.

A Brolin insider told the Daily News that Josh was not involved in a physical scuffle, as several news outlets previously reported. "He was released very soon after the incident," the source said. "It was not a bar fight. It wasn't a physical situation."

Of course Josh Brolin doesn't have a finger layed on him...I guess the local cops were a fan of his role in American Gangster as the seedy NY cop. I guess they could relate to that an all and decide to let him go without a fight. Brolin was released from jail after paying $334 bail; Wright wasn't listed in police booking records as of Saturday evening.

"W," Stone's story on the life and presidency of George W. Bush, began filming in Shreveport in May. Brolin plays President Bush and Wright plays former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Elizabeth Banks and Thandie Newton also star in the film, but were not involved in the incident. Now why the hell couldn't they have arrested Elizabeth Banks?? Just kiddin...I kinda like her in 40 Year Old Virgin...but still that would have been funnier if she could have got in the slammer. Then she can just act all weird and derranged towards the female innmates like she did in the movie. But who knows...that may turn them on.

Brody and Wright in the same Movie??? SAY IT AINT SO!

So 2 of our IndieSeen Favorites Adrien Brody and Jeffrey Wright will be starring in a film 2gether called Cadillac Records. So of course we plan on going to the screening openin-freakin nite! Originally Matt Damon was set to star in the anticipated flick but bowed at the last minute and Brody took over. Thank Gawd....kinda tired of seein Matt Damon's punchbag face (don't his face look a lil squished in??). He needs the break anyway...

So Jeffrey Wright---the most underrated extremely talented God-given gifted human being in all of cinema is also starring which is always a movie worth looking forward to. Adrien has taken on the role of Leonard Chess, and Wright will be Muddy Waters in the feature, which starts filming in March. They will be joined by Columbus Short (Stomp the Yard), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Cedric the Entertainer (Code Name: The Cleaner), and Tammy Blanchard (Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows).

Oh yea...but there's one more thing...Beyonce Knowles is playing Etta James. Fuuuuuucccckkk!!!! Okay sorry, but damn we were on a roll here! We have some talented A-list Academy Award and Tony Award winning actors in the lead roles and then casting had to fuck up and bring Beyonce into the picture. We're not hatin or anything...but really...who says this girl can act? She should stick to singing Bootylicious anthems and being Jay-Z's damaged goods. OUCH. Well yall know what we mean....

Anyways, we just don't understand why why why Beyonce should be cast when there are some MAJORLY talented sistas out there who should have played Etta James. Does NYIndieSeen need to bust out with casting suggestions as to who should have played the role? I mean we can if yall want us too...but we're gonna have to start charging.

Well we'll see how this pans out. If Beyonce fails miserably as an actress (and I'm quite sure she will) then perhaps Hollywood will finally see that seeing her on celluloid is a complete waste of time....and money.

SEEN In NYC

Back to celebrity sightings in the bestest place on earth!

Matthew Modine (memba him??) at 121 W 10th St chillin with some dude at a resturaunt. But he was checkin out a girl's ass so the gay rumors aint really necessary.

Wanda Sykes was all up in E 49th St & Lexington Ave right outside the W Hotel...speaking of gay rumors...I heard the lesbian ones about her are actually true.

Jeffrey Wright at E 48th St & Park Ave lookin a lil ruff but still good for his age. Is it true he lives in Fort Greene? Anyone know his address so we can stalk him?

Michael Rapaport was at 37 Spring St in Rice to Riches in SoHo gettin into it with his girl. Prolly they were fighting over who's gettin the Perfectly Legal Pecan Pie. It's completely understandble why a fight would ensue over that flavor.

Clive Owen's sexy ass was at E 47th St & Park Ave. HE could soooo get it!

Gwenyth Paltrow's bony ass was at Varick St & Franklin St strolling with an apple...uh we mean her kid Apple. What a fugged up name to have....Apple.

Cameron Diaz at 335 Bowery...stop tarnishing the nasty, dirty, grimy rat-ridden streets of NYC and go back to Los Angeles!

IndieSeen Favorite: Jeffrey Wright

I LOVE this man.

The first time I saw Jeffrey Wright was in this indie film called Basquiat. I thought it was one of the most accurate and real portrayals of a non-fictional character. He WAS Jean Michel Basquiat. I think what amazed me the most is he depicted him with such subtlety. It wasn’t over the top or rigid. It was seamless and flawless and I knew he was someone I needed to focus my attention towards.

Like it is stated on IMDB, Jeffrey Wright is by far one of the most underrated and underexposed actors in Hollywood. Perhaps exposure for Jeffrey himself, is not his intentions, which is why the bulk of his work in predominantly has been films in the independent circuit. However, he is considered to be A-list talent, and if you’re an indie filmmaker, you better have a damn good resume and an impressive body of work to even CONSIDER having him cast in your next film. He’s a forced to be reckoned with.

Born and raised in Washington DC, Wright graduated from the prestigious Amherst college in 1987. Although he studied Political Science while at Amherst, Wright left the school with something that would prove to be more valuable: a love for acting. Shortly after graduating he won an acting scholarship to NYU, but dropped out after only two months to pursue acting full time.

Good thing he did, because then we wouldn’t have this great talent to model after in cinema. He went onto star in several films including
Shaft as the unforgettable Peoples Hernandez (I really thought he was Hispanic when I saw that), and he played Martin Luther King Jr. in HBO made for TV movie Boycott. Another unforgettable made for TV movie by HBO he starred in was the multi-award winning film Lackawanna Blues. In 2005, he starred in the independent film Broken Flowers with Bill Murray. His ego is not too big to still go indie, which we love. However, because he such a phenomenal star, he’s in big budget films like Syriana, Casino Royale, and the upcoming Live Free or Die Hard movie.

It seems like he becomes a chameleon in every role he’s in. He truly becomes vulnerable and falls deep into the characters he plays. My favorite performance of his by far was as the flamboyant Belize who provides medical assistance to a dying AIDS patient played by Al Pacino in the HBO film
Angels In America. Even playing beside Al Pacino, Wright somehow manages to steal the scene. I never knew it was possible to upstage (and I mean that in a good way) Al Pacino. However, Wright certainly does in Angels. If you have not seen Angels In America you MUST rent that and it is available on Netflix.

Indie Pick O' The Day: Broken Flowers

Broken Flowers (2005)
Directed By Jim Jarmusch

When I first saw this movie I was at a private screening before its nationwide release and when the producer Stacey Smith presented the film to the audience, I sorta had low expectations. The producer didn't sound too enthusiastic when she presented the film, and Jim Jarmusch has a reputation for slow paced talkie movies like Coffee and Cigarettes.

However, this movie was a treat. First of all, it has a stellar cast. Bill Murray, Julie Delphy, Jeffrey Wright, Sharon Stone, Frances Conroy, Chloe Sevigny, Jessica Lange, and Tilda Swinton. Second, the story is pretty darn interesting. It's about a guy "Don Johnson" (Bill Murray) who receives a pink letter in the mail with no return address. The letter is from a former lover who he has no clue who she is, that claims that he has a 19 year old son wandering aimlessly out there looking for his father.

Jeffery Wright plays Winston, who likes the idea of playing dectective and decides to help solve the mystery of whom this former lover may possibly be. The film takes you through the journey for 2 hours of this man going back into the lives of his ex-girlfriends and you soon realize why Don either left these women or why these women left him. It has its funny moments, sad moments, and moments of surprise until the ending...

To be quite honest with you, this movie's ending is pretty black and white. You'll either love it or hate it. Lets us know what you thought.
