We Love It When Hollywood Fucks Up A Good Thing

With Cannes comin up and thangs apparently Donnie Darko 2 is being shopped around and is currently on the market for bidding. Fox has already picked up distribution rights and now it appears that this is the real deal. Hollywood once again is fuckin up royally by capitalizing on the quintessential indie cult classic Donnie Darko by making it a sequel. Why??? Why???

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister and the rest of the cast are a bunch of nobodys. Lets see Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl Briana Evigan from Step Up 2 and Justin Chatwin from Dragon Ball. I love seeing a sequel with a bunch of D-listers!!! It's so refreshing!

The story picks up seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

The project starts shooting May 18.

Will we see Jakey boy?? Of course not! He's smart enough to know as an A-lister you never do sequels to movies that don't need one. What would he have to gain from being in this craptacular flick? Maybe they should cast his sis. She would be phenomenal as the evil bunny--no costume required. We luv u Gylls!

Yall SEEN any celebs lately?? We'll fill ya in...

Tilda Swinton or whom I would like to refer to as "Casper" was seen at Broadway and 49th St apparently gettin her hair did

Uma Thurman was seen at 6th Ave and Vandam St. Should we really be posting the whereabouts of Uma?? Well she was filming a movie so tons of security was around. We love you Uma!! No no not in a stalkerish way...c'mon.

Natalie Portman was on Christopher St with a dog...the girl was so tiny she's about the same height as her dog!

An NYIndieSeen staffer caught A TON OF A-LISTERS!!!!

Just to name a few:

Janet Jackson, David Bowie & Iman, Donald Trump, Soph
ia Coppola, Joshua Jackson, TomKat (that's Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes), Beyonce, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Naomi Watts, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen....just to name a few. Okay...maybe Joshua Jackson should be removed from the list---he's more of a C-lister but he was hot so it's worth noting. Where was this NYIndieSeen staffer? At the Costume Gala of course located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Side Note (first-hand account): "So I saw Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen walk on the red carpet. One looked normal with a healthy complexion and the other looked like one of the underground dwellers from The Descent. I immediately guessed that the freak of nature was Mary Kate. I was frightened. I kid you not...scared. I was 2 feet away from her standing next to photogs when she looked into the direction of the cameras and I looked into her piercing eyes. Isn't there some quote that states that eyes are the windows to the soul?? Well whoever said that never met Mary Kate Olsen--she has no soul. I mean her eyes looked lifeless. I'm not one for celebrity bashing I leave that to Perez Hilton or DListed, but I must say, she literally gave me goosebumps...not the nervous kind either."

SEEN O' The Day: Manic

So haven't we all at one point had this conversation? Whether you're stoned with friends or leaving the movie theater after seeing a great superhero flick somehow the conversation wanders to...
who is the greatest superhero of all time and why? The film Manic is about a juvenile commited to the wing of the Northwood Mental Institution. Several other guys are there with a variety of crazee problems. The hotness that is--JGL plays Lyle, who interacts with other patients and staff on a human, and sometimes not so human level. The psychological problems of the patients also forms the fabric by which we see what's right with them, and what's wrong with the society that affects them.

Look at the moments where JGL looks over at the girl...but its almost like he's flirting with the camera instead. Sometimes he doesn't even have to say anything and his performance is solid. :::SIGH:::

Here is the scene where they discuss at length superheroes and their abilities and inabilities as crime fighters.

Green Porno

Isabella Rossellini-- who has a name I absolutely adore-- directed a 15 minute short about the act of fucking between insects. Now that's what I like! I definitely wanna see a film about bugs gettin it on! But don't expect this short film to be a carbon copy of an episode off of the Discover Channel. No no...Rossellini dresses up in a bug costume and reenacts the act of love making. In one bug costume, she plays the role of a Praying Mantis. The costumes are very elementary and simple....something out of a school play, but the wardrobes adds its own sense of humor to this delightful piece.

The budget for this short looks like it cost 10 bucks and yet it is so imaginative and smart. It's too bad this only lasted 15 minutes I would have totally like to have seen this as a feature. Green Porno is actually a series of shorts divided into segments to precede certain screenings at the Tribeca Film Festival. Sort of a teaser film if you will before watching the feature presentation.

It figures that I would like any movie with the word "porno" in it. But trust'll like it too. I'm waiting to see clips of this on YouTube! For now Sundance wants you to tune in on cinco de mayo to see the clips. All I could find was a snippet of what I saw this evening. Why didn't I think of this??

Tribeca Film Festival Review: Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha

Okay say this out loud 3 times fast. Ready? Go!

Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha
Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha
Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha

Did you say it aloud 3 times fast? Do you feel like an ass for saying it aloud and getting it wrong all three times? Well now you know how I felt after seeing this movie. A complete ass. Okay...maybe that's a bit extreme but my time could have been well spent watching another screening, but I chose this one specifically because the legendary Melvin Van Peebles was conducting a Q&A after the film. So even though I went in knowing absolutely nothing about the film I figured what the hell right? Movies like Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song are classics! Melvin's work has always been a little off-key so to speak so I wasn't that surprised when I left the screening having a WTF moment. I even found myself getting on the wrong train on the way home. I had become completely disoriented. I really can't describe what the movie is about becuz there is no way to really explain it without it sounding completely confusing. So I'll just break it down in layman's terms: Melvin Van Peebles narrates this story (Dr. Suessian style) about his life as a 14 year old coming of age and living in the streets of New York City. Now Melvin Van Peebles plays a 14 year old. Yep you got it...he plays himself playing a 14 year old boy. See what I mean by bizarre? Then there are just these random people he meets aimlessly in his life who make no sense and serve no purpose other than to make a forced cameo as a favor to the filmmaker. Then there are all these psychedelic images of mosaics and colors that looks like a cheesy 70's porno. The music also has the cheesy 70's porn backdrop and I was expecting to see Linda Lovelace come out and do her thing. This was just weird for me. Perhaps becuz I don't understand the full scope of Peebles sense of avant garde and art that it just wasn't my cup of tea. But there are ways you can be experimental (Green Porno---will blog later) that is refreshing, creative, and simple.

I actually left the screening moments before the film ended and missed the Q&A becuz I realized there are more important things I should be doing with my time like catching a new episode of Grey's Anatomy...and its sad that I actually rush home to see a TV show that I already have set to DVR----but as you know I'm a bit of a compulsive-obsessive when it comes to the TV show. I mean damn I have an archive about a network TV show on an independent film blog. Anywayz..back to Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha. If you get the title and understand what it means....then maybe you'll get the movie. It's just that simple. Or maybe I'm just the moron. But to put it simply this movie was truly bizarre.

Craptacular Flick: After Sex

Have you ever went to the video store or looked up a movie on
IMDB and read the plot and thought..."wow this looks like this would be an interesting movie"--but then you get home and watch it and realize that this you felt hoodwinked into believing that this movie was even worth the 90 minutes of your time devoted to it??? Well that's how we felt when we watched After Sex. Okay cool concept---7 vignettes about pillow talk. Ya know the deep philosophical conversations we have after sex?? Well that's what the movie is about. It focuses on each couple's interesting conversation that takes place after they have had sex. Some conversations are about falling in love, some are about homophobia, and others are about pretending your are a hooker when really you are a bad actress trying to convince us that you're really not a whore. Yea, that's what one of the stories are about.

This movie was a snorefest for me and there were homosexual couples featured in this film having the same redundant conversation about what it is to be gay and the fear of being outed. Watching the film actually felt like an after-school special. I'm surprised that so many well known actors appeared in the film. I guess they just read their scenes and not the script in its entirety...cuz the stories were majorly lacking and the writing was nothing to get excited about either. Sometimes in weird way it can be refreshing to see shitty indies like this being made. It gives the really talented writers out there-- who yet to have a voice --a chance to write better films.
If you have to watch this film, use it as a guide what NOT to do when writing a script. It will be very helpful in your journey as a screenwriter.

Here is a sample below. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Do you even care?
