That Damn Bad-Hair Day Bride Video

Unless you've been living under a rock or simply don't give a shit, you may have heard about this video circulating over the Internet about A bride who sees her hair for the first time on her wedding day and repulsed by what she sees. She decides to cut her hair off.

When I first saw this video it looked quite real and kinda funny, But then it was leaked that the bitch in the video who claims she hates her hair is an actress. She's from Canada or something like that. Figures. Anywayz, when I watched the video again after KNOWING it was fake, I realized this fool really can't act. But who cares what I think. The video is doing well, and on YouTube it already has OVER 2 MILLION views and it was just added on January 18th! Pretty phenomenal huh?

Wouldn't that be somethin if YouTube paid each person 1 cent for each time someone views your video? Damn...this broad already banked 200K!

Makes you wanna add some more of your videos on our Short Film Corner blog huh? Yeah...you know you want to. DEW IT. DEW IT.

In case you haven't seen this bore fest of a video, here it is in all its glory. Enjoy. I guess.

Indie Seen Favorite: Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell, can I tell you how much i used to love this girl?
Anybody remember that period in the mid to late 90's when Scream had just come out and became this huge hit, and everybody was talking about the resurgence of the horror genre and Hollywood's new focus on the teenage demographic.
Entertainment weekly, Newsweek and every other publication at the time did articles with titles like "Teen Steam" and the "New Hollywood Brat pack".
then the WB started focusing on angsty whiny teens with issues and Jennifer love hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, And those Dawsons Creek kids became like mega stars over night.
All these 17 magazine cover Kids started Popping up in a different teen-Flick a week: remember The Faculty, She's All that, 10 thing I Hate about you, Disturbing behaviour, Can't hardly Wait?
yeah, yeah you do, and I'm sure you have some of these gems hidden in your DVD collection too .

well one of the earliest insta-stars to come out of that whole craze was Canadian Actress
Neve Campbell.
At the time she was the star of the mega successful Scream Franchise, where she played perennial stalker victim Sydney Prescott, and the Hit Fox series Party of Five (it was All about the third season of Party of Five) which lead to her being honored as "the most believable teenager on television" by Time Magazine.

I think I may have been a bit obsessed with this one at the time. I'm not sure why. she had these cute little quirks about her.
Like she would touch her face all awkwardly in every other scene, or make these weird arm motions during a dramatic moment.
At the time I thought those were Majorly adorable traits, but looking back at it I've come to realize that those were the signs of a Not so good actress. She did basically the same thing in the whole series of P05, The Craft, and the Scream Sequels.

in 1998 she was sick of playing the sweet girl next door roles and went all bad ass in the excellent John Mcnaughton film Wild Things, where she played bisexual schemer Suzie Toller.
that film became most notable for that skinemax moment of a threesome with Denise Richards, Campbell and Matt Dillon in a sleazy hotel room.
The Movie was a guilty pleasure, critics loved it and Neves "Q" went up a few notches.
Not so well received however was her next turn in the abysmal and reportedly heavily altered Disco themed film 54, the film starred Ryan Phillippe as a go-go boy who gets caught up in the drugs and glam of the infamous 1970's club. For a film that took place in the debauchery of 54 it was surprisingly tame and boring. It was a choppy confusing mess and they also reportedly cut out some hot man on man action between Ryan Phillippe and Breckin Meyers in the movie (Blasphemy!!)
In it Neve Campbell played some sort of Soap Actress who becomes Phillippe's love interest.. nevermind the fact that they had absolutely no chemistry together, but the relationship in the film felt tacked on and Wholly unnecessary.
The Film bombed and deservedly so.
Neves next Mistake was as the Female lead in a Mathew Perry comedy
Three to tango.
I personally adored this movie, cause Neve was in it at her awkwardly cute best, but I was able to step back and see that had she not been in the film I would have seen it for what it really was, A predictable schmaltzy Hollywood Rom-Com that wasn't particularly Funny, but props to Oliver platt who costarred as a sassy gay guy, and managed to come away from this one mostly unscathed. (honestly Oliver Platt should play a sassy gay guy in every crappy movie that comes out. It would make it ten times more digestible

Examp: "From Justin to Kelly To Oliver," I love it)

After the End of her television series Party of Five in 2000, Neve saw herself delving into more Independent Film roles, which is always the sign of an actress attempting to be taken seriously. she was rewarded with critically acclaimed turns in "Investigating Sex", Robert Altman's "The Company" and the Henry Bromell film "Panic" opposite William H Macy.
while the critics noted that her technique had been improving remarkably, her lack of a

bona-fide hit movie in some time or particularly interesting personal life lead to the significant Dimming of her star wattage and she basically fell off of every ones Radar.

Neve campbell, is still out there working in indie movie land, I'm not sure if this is now by choice or because she has no other options. but she recently appeared in the James Toback film "When will I be Loved" where she was subjected to Mainly Favorable reviews. ( its also the first movie where she throws away that pesky no nudity clause she had and gets butt ass naked).
she also appears in the straight to video Danny Devito Comedy Relative strangers and is set to costar in the Drama "The Death of Harry Tobin" in 2008.

Honestly I'm not sure where things went wrong with this one, Actually yeah I kind of do. Alot of people I used to confess my love for her too would always complain about how she was so annoying, and couldn't act and had an irritating voice.
Then we'd inevitably get into a heated shouting match about it, in a fit of rage someone would "accidentally" get stabbed with that scissor that was laying on my desk and I would have to hide the bodies. It was an incredibly tacky habit.
but now that i think about it in the beginning she could get a little annoying, no matter what movie i was watching

It was always me watching "Neve Campbell" Act in a movie. (except when it came to her turn in that awful Blind Horizon movie and then it was me falling asleep to Neve Campbell acting in a movie.)

its not to late for Neve to make a comeback, I mean she's still cute, she could go for that whole Sandra bullock awkward leading lady thing, pop up in some goofy romantic comedies.
First of course, she'll have to do Scream 4 to get her name back out there, maybe start Banging Ashton Kutcher or Wilmer Valderlamya or something or get into some asinine feud with Posh spice to get back in to the papers,

(why posh spice?, why not?)
and Viola' she's BACK.
it's that easy!
So Neve. Start Banging and hopefully will be seeing you on the big screen again soon.

Love ya bitch!

P.S. Why are they taking forevez to release season 3 of Party of Five on DVD, I mean WTF!!
Lets get it together people!

SEEN O' The Day: The Lost Boys

Ahhhh remember the 80s? Wasn't life so much simpler back then? I mean the movies that came out of that time period were like fucking instant classics you know what I'm talking about : The Wraith, Short Circuit, Weird Science, 3 o'clock High we all grew up watching these masterpieces. I remember they use to show 'em constantly on channell 11 back before it was the "WB" and they used to just air old movies. Most of them were cheesy as hell, but who cares they were still Aces.

Here's one of my personal favorites: The Lost Boys , bad fucking ass!, they are currently talking about doing a sequel to this one but Whatevezz, its all about the original.

Remember the bathtub scene with lil Corey Haim singing? back when he was still a Hearthrob?

Have you seen Corey now? What the hell happened? Years of Coke parties and cheap hookers have finally caught up with him, and what was the deal with the Other one, the one that used to chill with Michael jackson all the time?
you knoowww that ass got worked out.
Maybe we should write a "Whatever Happened To?" blog about The Coreys!

In the meantime...heres the scene

Indie Pick O' The Day: Me and You and Everyone We Know

Me and You and Everyone We Know
Directed By Miranda July

I have one word to say about this movie: WEIRD. But it's good. It's basically an off-beat, bizarre, comedy with bits and pieces of romance and obsession. Quirky, yet cute in alot of ways, but its certainly an indie film that is unconventional beyond its means and definitely worth seein!

It's pretty cool that one of the stars of the film Miranda July who plays Christine, is also the film's writer and director. She was actually rated by Filmmaker Magazine as #1 in the Top 25 New Faces of Indie Film in 2004. Christine is a cab driver and artist who lives a solitary life. Richard, played by John Hawkes (remember him as the liquor store clerk in From Dusk Till Dawn?) he is a recently divorced father and shoe salesman who's waiting for great things to happen in his life. When his path crosses from Christine's, he's both mesmerized and scared.

There's a pretty intense scene at the beginning in this scene where we see Richard's hand get burned by fire. It looks so real that I cringed and wondered how they made that look like it actually happened! Damn I know a stunt guy didn't do that. There is also an amazing performance by little Brandon Ratcliff who plays Richard's son Robby. When I saw Will Smith's son in Pursuit of Happyness, I thought of this actor, because they look and almost act alike. the movie takes an odd turn when the little six year old Robby meets a stranger over the Internet who has a close tie with Christine...yea, things start gettin a lil freaky.

Overall even though this movie is strange, its worth seeing because the writing and performances are flawless. Even the wardrobe and costumes worn by the character's are off. It speaks magnitudes to the type of film we are about to see. It's good to see films sometime that don't necessarily have a formula. It's good to catch the avant garde "experimental" plot lines that gives a film a type of substance that sparks some curiosity or intrigue. Sometimes the rules of story structure can be thrown out of the window and you can still have a timeless classic.

HYPE/HATE for January 30, 2007

......................... around the world and a back snap
By HP McHatey

Welcome back to HYPE/HATE, where we find out what dumb things linger in my mind about recent movies I have seen while sitting on my fat ass!! I will be setting the Hype/Hate rating system as the greatest ratings system since Men on Film’s. To tell the truth, I feel like I’m ripping them off but oh well……….. Today we start off with my favorite dystopian futuristic tale…………..

Children of Men- Let me start off by saying that I have gone on the posts of IMDB to read about how people are hyping/hating this movie. Let me tell you…… we are living in the greatest times when you can actually give your dumb ass opinions about any damn thing!! Wait a sec……. Is that what I’m doing now? YES IT IS!! Whateva, cuz I will do what I want. This movie was so great that when you watch it in the theaters you’re almost crapping your pants cuz the explosions are so God damn loud. I won’t ruin the movie but there was a scene that looked so friggin’ real, I vomited my pretzel bites on my girlfriend. It was a beautiful scene though, and the end made me think about what my life would be like if I was friends with Clive Owen. It would probably be pretty cool.
-HYPE what yo mamma gave ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Borat- Listen, I don’t mean to sound Too Cool For School or something, but I thought it was funnier when it was on HBO. The jokes were fresh, and didn’t have the attachment of being played out by Middle American white kids who impersonate him while I play against them online with my Xbox 360. Ok that’s a nerdy comment, but it’s fucked up that these kids impersonate him, and then end up calling me “jew” with their real voices! WTF! I’m not Jewish, but if I was, it would be pretty cool to have one of those Hassidic dude’s hats cuz they look like Wyatt Earp or some shit. Those online kids are god damn jerks. OK, enough rantifying, the movie was ok, and seeing the fat guy’s hairy ass on Borat’s face was pretty awesome. Wowaweewa.
-HYPE’d kind of, but HYPE the shit out of the original sketches.

The Descent- It was cool watching all these bitches duke (not dyke) it out against some ugly ass monsters. I swear to god, the first time I saw those white pieces of shit flying out at those women, it made me feel like those chicks fucked up for the last time. I mean c’mon, you really gone’ go down there tryin’ act a fool? PUHLEASE! I dig the feminist undertones too. But I wouldn’t want to go into a giant vagina if it had those things coming out of it.
HYPE the chicks UP IN THIS FEMINIST PIECE!!!!!!!!

The Illusionist- I normally love watching any piece of crap Eddie Norton makes. This one however, made me feel like he punched me in the face and made me smell a bum’s asshole. It was funny too cuz I was kinda into it at first. I wanted to know the secret of The Orange Tree just as much as PIG VOMIT. That’s a Howard Stern reference for those who aren’t complete tools like I am. Seriously though, as this movie kept going, I was wondering why they fuck I was putting up with this dumb ass shit till the “surprise end”. Long story short, fuck happy endings, they only make you realize what a jerk you were for following the story.
-HATE ON IT THEN SHIT ON IT!!!!

United 93- HAAAAAAAAAATED IT! Just kidding, however, this movie was kind of a bore fest until the end, and then it made me cry like a little bitch. All the Muslim dudes and the white people freaked me out. IT WAS Too real for me. It was a great story, but too much of this “hey what did you have to eat today?” conversating. It made me feel like slapping all the non-famous people in this movie.
HYPE IT for its realness, nah mean!

Beowulf and Grendel- Man this movie was a fucking turd waiting to come out of the director’s butt. The whole time I was thinking to myself “Man, there are going to be so many awesome fighting scenes in this piece!” but all I get is Grendel pissing on the soldier’s fort. C’mon man, you didn’t have to make this shit into Animal House. The part where Grendel’s arm gets ripped off is pretty crazy. And how the hell does a normal girl have sex with him, that shit was so weird. He busted like after a second too, that’s some ole’ bullshit.
HATE THIS GODAMN MOVIE AND THEN PISS ON ITS DVD CASE!!!!!

That’s it folks! Tune for more shitty reviews on HYPE/HATE and remember, I have three words for how I feel about you readers: FAB YOU LOUS!!!! Don’t hate me cuz I’M beautiful. Two snaps around the back my nerds!

SEEN O' The Day: Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction

Directed by the greatest filmmaker of all time....QUENTIN TARANTINO

This is by far the best scene in this film and the scene that gave Samuel L. Jackson his Oscar nomination. Jules Winnfield was cool as hell in this scene.

Indie Pick O The Day: The Good Girl

Directed By Miguel Arteta

What a great movie. It's a sweet moderate paced romantic comedy about a girl Justine (Jennifer Aniston) who wants to start a family with her husband Phil played by John C. Reilly. Unfortunately, Justine is unable to have children. She's frustrated with her marriage, her job, and her life and meets the always-so-hot Jake Gyllenhaal (Holden). She OF COURSE falls for him instantly and the two share a passionate love affair. Its a whole new world for her and OF COURSE a sexual awakening in which she becomes submerged in her love for Holden and later sees the circumstances of her extramarital affair and where it soon leads them.

It's cute, quirky, funny, and honest. Each of the characters are unique in their own way, and completely eccentric. Yet you feel as if you can relate to them at some capacity. The film was well written and a the direction was flawless. Quite honestly, anyone can find themselves in the same situation as Justine and maybe some of us already have but are afraid to admit it. The story speaks to living your life to the fullest and ignoring the consequences of your actions...as long as it is with "good" intentions.

Rosario Dawson: She Been Brought Sexy Back

She's from New York City, she's sexy, she can act, and she dated one of the hottest actors in Hollywood. Too bad they broke up...

She's Rosario Dawson.

We dig this chick, and she's had some plum roles so far. Damn remember when she was in Kids as the slutty girl who couldn't get enough sex? Then she's went on to star in NYC based films such as King Of The Jungle, Men In Black 2, 25th Hour, Sidewalks Of New York, and Rent.

Look for her in Quentin Tarrantino and Robert Rodriguez upcoming genre flick: Grindhouse!

She was sexy as hell in Sin City too. I mean look at that!
tounge, ( I'm sure the ladies just LOVE that)
Sexy and sultry as hell, she is the Next Hollywood star!

IndieSeen sexy bitch shoutout to Rosaaaarrrrio!

IndieSeen Favorite: Gus Van Sant

Gus Van Sant is one of those directors we can appreciate because his career has had hits and misses. And isn't that what this industry is all about? You can't get it right all the time, but Van Sant's films has certainly made an imprint on the conscience of young filmmakers everywhere.

It all started with an indie film called Drugstore Cowboy. Van Sant wrote and directed this edgy black romatic comedy about a group of drug addicts who are so desperate for their fix that decide to live a life of crime by robbing drug stores. The film stars Matt Dillion and Kelly Lynch as a heroin driven duo that gets their "stash" by any means necessary.

Then he made a phenomenal indie drama called My Own Private Idaho. The film starring Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix (in one of his finest perfromances) as two hustlers who prostitute themselves on the streets and are also addicted to drugs. There is a homoerotic relationship between the two chracters which was quite controversial at the time of the film's release. However the film did critically well and is now considered to be a cult classic.

Van Sant had some misses with films such as Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, and he recast Matt Dillion again with Nicole Kidman in the film To Die For (which starred River Phoenix's brother Joaquin Phoenix). Then Gus Van Sant made an ultimate mistake by making a risky decision to remake Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller Psycho. Instead of shooting it as a remake, he basically regurgitated the original version and filmed it "shot-for-shot" as Hitchcock had back in 1960. The film was an utter disaster and was detested by movie critics.

He made a comeback though and directed Good Will Hunting. Van Sant was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director in 1998. He's continued on to make films like Finding Forrester and the ever-so-controversial Elephant that is based on the 1999 Columbine shootings. The film can be quite disturbing, for there is barely any dialogue, and instead probes into the minds of these two kids who decide to shoot up their high school. Most of the film is actually improvised by the actors.

What is quintessential about his movies are that they deal with teen angst. Typically young adults coming of age trying to find out who they are and where their place is in life. He's not afriad to tap deep into the minds of youth and visualize their experiences on the big screen. We need more directors like Van Sant to express our ideas and our thoughts. So therefore, he is an NYIndieSeen Favorite.

Hype/Hate For January 29, 2007

What a Fucking Jerk
By H.P. McHatey

Welcome to Hype/Hate folks! The way the game is played is that I give you very short asinine comments about recent films I have seen. They are followed by the ULTIMATE rating system…….. THE HYPE/HATE Rating system!!!! If I like a movie it gets my HYPE, but if it sucks donkey balls, I send in the haters to call out “HATE, HATE, HATE!!!” on dat azz. Let me know what you think. I wont hate on anyone who thinks my opinions are really shitty, but I will love you if you love reading my shit. It’s all good MY NERDS!!!!!!! We’re all here to have fun, and maybe learn a little something. And now we begin with the wonderful world of Joss Whedon in………

Serenity- The way to watch this movie is in two separate parts. The first part of the film should be watched with apprehension thinking about whether this movie will be better than his writing on Astonishing X-Men. The second part should be watched thinking what a big fucking nerd you are for comparing these two things and realizing that maybe you should find something else to do besides thinking about what Joss Whedon needs to improve in this movie to make it more “Buffy-like”. –HYPE IT!!!

Miami Vice- I thought this movie was Fantastico!!! You get Michael Mann and Jamie Foxx together again to make another awesome film!! One of my few qualms about this movie is why Jamie Foxx couldn’t drive the awesome cars. Why does that JerkStore, Colin Ferrett have to drive. Racist producers! Foxx would’ve looked way cooler driving but whatevs. – HYPE THIS SHIT!!!

Little Miss Sunshine- Call me a douche, but this movie was too fhaaaaaaaacking cute!
That sweet girl made me giggle like a little bitch so many times. That Arkin dude was hilarious, and I never wanna see that guy from The Office look so sad ever AGAIN!!!
-HYPE IT LIKE YOU NEED IT!!!!!!!

Hard Candy- I will have to apologize to any Indieseen writers who like this movie, cuz I think there’s pics of the DVD cover on the site, but this movie made me want to hang that little girl in the movie. What a creepy little bitch!! But not because I was scared of her but because of the way her DumbAss lips looked. They looked like she was eating lemons while she was taking a shit! Aside from the dumbass acting and that fucking girl annoying the hell out of me, this movie was fucking retarded. You would think the NutSACk cutting scene would make me cringe, but it just made me think about how much she needed to get her ass beat for having such a painfully hard face to watch. She was kinda cute though.
HATE THIS SHIT LIKE YOU NEED TO TAKE A SHIT!!!!!

That’s all for this installment of HYPE/HATE!! I will periodically be HYPING or HATING on any films my lazy ass gets to watch. For now, peace out my nerds! And remember: Don’t HYPE/HATE it unless you really care about it.

KFedz Commercial Leaked

Ok, so one of our NYIndieSeen Stafferz looooves KFed. She'll have another one f his ill-legitmate kids if she could...

Well here is the KFed Superbowl commercial that has been leaked on the net and yall gotz to see this! Damn KFed is fine as hell....all dirty and trailer trash-like. Luv it!

Indie Seen Pic 'O' the day

Kill Bill?, yeah that was a cool movie
but you want Bad ASS? , I'll give ya bad ass.

its' called Oldboy

Oldboy is a South Korean flick directed by Park Chan-wook.

Released in 2003, the movie is about a man who is kidnapped, and locked in a room for 15 years by a faceless Culprit.
one day he wakes up released from his prison. Now he becomes determined to find the Person who imprisoned him.

thats All Im gonna say about this one,
So take it, chew it, Swallow it down ( all of it) and Love it.

uhhhh, Your welcome!

Shining: The Director's Cut

Here's an exclusive courtesy of us here at NYIndieSeen again...

There has been a Director's Cut of The Shining that is set to be released. We actually have the movie trailer for all of you to see. If you thought the original Shining was disturbing, wait until you see this!

IndieSeen Favorite: Jennifer Beals

I never really understood why the Goddess Jennifer Beals wasn't a much bigger star than she is. I mean, she's a great fucking actress;
she's Gorgeous, like-able and intelligent. She has this sort of calming effect when she speaks.
I hear that stern but comforting Beals voice and it makes me feel that all is right with the world. she soothes, like calamine Lotion, or a nice spliff.
Yet somehow, since her breakout turn as an aspiring dancer in the now Iconic, 1983 film: Flashdance, the leading lady spot-light has eluded her.

Since Flashdance she has consecutively delivered solid performances in lower budget indie films like: :'In the soup", "the Aanniversary Party', or "Roger Dodger".
she's also had smaller knockout roles in bigger budget pictures like "Devil in a blue Dress" ( where she smoldered) and John Grishams "Runaway jury."
yeah there's been some stinkers, the Prophecy 2, Catch that kid, but dammit if she was offered the better roles that she deserves, then she wouldn't have to settle for that sort of dreck.
She's too good for it.

Many people have only recently gotten to see how amazing she is as an actress; subtle , intense, incredibly natural, thanks to the hit (and unfortunately shark Jumped since season 2), lesbian drama the L-Word, where she plays the tough as nails Bette porter.
In my opinion she's always been the best thing about the show, ( that, and all the hot girl-on-girl action, Oh and Foxy Brown).

I've tried to understand why the bigger roles have'nt come flooding to her thus far, this woman has been in the game for over 20 years and it's still a pleasure to see her name unexpectedly appear in the credits of a film I'm watching.
She is Joy, she is a breath of fresh highly talented Air.

I cant possibly comprehend why somebody like Renee zellweger can annoyingly pout and squint her way into super stardom, but my girl Jen can't catch a break.

Whats the damn problem?,
is it a racial thing? is there an issue with placing a biracial actress into leading roles?
is she not black enough?, Not white enough?
is their worry that there isn't a big enough audience to identify with her, and eventually want to support her films?
Well I'm gonna take this time to officially put out there, that I am willing to support any damn thing, the bealster shows up in. ANYTHING, I don't care what it is.

This fabulous bitch could show up in the next Adam Sander meets Dane Cook meets Andy dick Meets the Wayne's brothers meets Louie Anderson meets Carrot top meets Jamie Kennedy, Meets Jessica Simpson Irritata-Palooza road trip buddy comedy and I would still be there front and center of the isles with my popcorn and sour patch kids rearing to Go.

Maybe she just has crappy representation, Whatever the case, this beautiful queen deserves much better, She Needs to have an Oscar hanging on her mantel in her home, period.
She deserves it for being so bloody fabulous,

When is the damn academy; going to start taking my One man letter writing campaign, to add a Most fabulous Bitch category seriously?
I mean geeez Ben, fucking, Affleck has an Oscar (sorry Jamie).
surely they can find someway to get one to tha Beals.
Maybe then those Bridget Jones roles will finally come calling.

cause we know that they're sure as hell overdue.

Whatever Happened To? Patrick Swayze

Patrick Swayze. Yum. Whenever you think of the name Patrick Swayze only one movie comes to mind....Dirty Dancing. The film is not really known for being an indie per se, but its a film that stays indelibly printed of the minds of filmLovers everywhere. We think of Johnny Castle and poor little naiive Baby making out in the dance studio and seeing them dance up a storm at in the final scene of the movie.

But our question here at NYIndieSeen is: What happened to Patrick Swayze?

Well he came out with a few hits after that. Remember Next Of Kin? Or the famous booty scene in Roadhouse? Ok ok, well maybe this one will jog your memory...how about Ghost? Now we're talkin. Well it seems like after he hit the skinz with Demi in that movie his career sorta...plummeted. Damn I guess Demi does have that effect on people...just look at Ashton Kutcher's career.

Well he did come back with that awesome surfer movie Point Break, but then Keanu said that line in the movie that will later become Patick Swayze's own fate...."He's Not Comin Back". And you know what? Swayze never came back? He left without telling us. Where did you go baby?

He did make some attempts at indie flicks such as Black Dog, Letters From A Killer, and Donnie Darko. He made an appearnace in the revolting film as a dance instructor in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Uggh! How could he do that?!? Then he just sorta fell off. Why? We liked you? You looked sexy in those tight azz black spandex. Oh wellz.

What Really Happened To Patrick Swayze?

He got Old.

Jeremy Piven: Why Do We Care?

Now NYIndieSeen is not all about spilling a bunch a haterade on Hollywood actors and the Film industry, but we just question why Jeremy Piven is someone is Hollywood that has a career? Why do we care about this guy?
Is it because of Entourage?
Damn why did that show have to come into existence?
Remember when he was making fall out craptacular hits like PCU and Judgement Night? Nobody gave a shit about him then? So why should we care now? And now he's dissin on his old pal John Cusack!?! What the hell is that all about?

If it weren't for Cusack, Jeremy Piven would be a N-O-B-O-D-Y in this biz. Pivster, u aint all that! Well at least we know that in order to make it in Hollywood you don't have to be well liked...or even have a talent to act. He plays himself in every role "the sarcastic-condescending-prick". Maybe he's playing Himself?? Could be. But he's just another actor in this biz that is taking up some poor talented Julliard-schooled humble-down-to-earth-sweet-charismatic-ATTRACTIVE actor who deserves to be SEEN. O wellz. Too bad Sopranos are in their final season on HBO.

SEEN O' The Day: Dazed And Confused

Dazed and Confused
Directed By Richard Linklater

It's not about the scene necessarily that we love about this movie moment, but it's Matthew McConaughey's quote in this scene. So classic! And damn look at them tight ass pants!

Indie seen Favorite: Donald faison.

Well, cant really say i've seen him in too many independent Movies.

Uhhhh, he was good in Clueless and in the film Something New,

we just wanted to give him a shout out because he's so great on Scrubs (which we adore)

and he's got that killer smile.

Go' head wit your fine ass

I'd hit it sooo many ways
ok, back to our regularly scheduled program

Chris: An Indie Screenwriter

I am an amateur screenwriter (I already have a full time, professional career--I write for fun and relaxation). I have about a dozen screenplays in construction lately. Mainly thrillers, adventure, low-budget urban drama, crime, SF, and biography.

My background is in history, English and American lit, art/design, philosophy/religion, environmental studies/engineering.I'm a caucasian male, in my early thirties, and I live in Brooklyn. Below is a sample of my general style. It has some explictives, sorry. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute. I'm interested in networking with other NYC writers.

Chris from Brooklyn...

snippet from "Controlled Skid"

1. EXT. ROUTE 66. NIGHT.

A brand-new BMW 238 convertible is hurtling through a summer night down
the Route 66 highway, on the outskirts of Cheyenne, Wyoming--at about 80 m.p.h. It has momentarily locked doors with a large 12-ton truck in the neighboring lane.

An ear-splitting screech of metal-on-metal creases the night; lasting first
a mile, then two. Howling wind cocooning the small sports car and its oblivious occupants. The situation is frightening and insane; but the BMW does not pull away.

2. INT. BMW 238. NIGHT.

The passenger, LEILA, is frustratedly jabbing at her forearm with a
hypodermic, trying to find the vein. She is about twenty-two, a
sometime
prostitute, one-time American Goth/dysfunctional wrist-slashing
middle-child. Fun is her middle name.

HUGO STAAB, (driving) is a hip, muscular, blonde drug-dealer with
dreams of
being an music television V.J. sustaining him as he approaches the ripe
old
age of 28--is completely inattentive to the shrieking proximity of the
large
truck throbbing inches from his skull. He fixes instead on his female
companion, his eyes not even on the road, cooing softly to her . . .

HUGO:
Leila, please, honey. . . c'mon . .

LEILA
I'm trying! Godamnit! You liar! Shut the hell up! Turn on the ceiling
light
why don't you?

HUGO:
(embarrassed, but recovering)
Yeah, sure, okay. . I'm the liar now. Riiiiiiight.

LEILA: You said we'd be engaged before we left KC. Where are we now,
East
Bumblefuck, Montana?

HUGO:
(getting pissed now)
Listen baby-- when I was in hiding behind the shower curtain last night
and
you were with Friday night's Tinkerbell . . let me tell you something,
you're the liar okay? Didn't we "pinky swear" never to do our special
trick,
with anyone else? You think I'm deaf or something? I heard, I heard. .

LEILA:
(glancing sideways)
Yeah, wha-a-t-ever. . what am I supposed to do when the guy starts it?
You
didn't patent that trick.

HUGO:
Nevermind. Hey, find that freakin vein before I take it away. And, for
your
information, we're under battle conditions here--no lights. Look,
what'dya
think would happen if we got pulled over right now for a busted
tail-light?
With your swords in the trunk an all?
(exchange of glares)

LEILA: Where I go, my blades and my altar go--you KNEW that, Since Day
1. I
TOLD you. And you've got a bit of a knife collection too y'know--

HUGO:
Bullshit, this is Wyoming. Springsteen country, you know? Martin Sheen.
Everyone has a knife out here--but swords and Wicca? Fuck! On top of
the
shit in your lap!

LEILA:
(snorting)
Springsteen! Even I know he's Jersey!

HUGO
(loudly, frothing)
Look! I score for you, don't I? even out here in the middle of nowhere.
But
after that it's a bad division of labor!! You come up with the scratch,
I do
the all the dangeous work, you get all the joy--what exactly do I get,
huh?
Used goods!

LEILA
(drops needle; pounds her head violently on dashboard at the start of
this
familiar lecture)
F_ck! F_ck! F_ck! SHUT the F_CK UP!! You think it's not dangerous, then
you
bend over for these goobers! Hell you'd probably like it!

HUGO
(No longer riled. He leers evilly. Smooth and back in control, now
tapping
out one of his fave beats on the seatback, thus driving one-handed)

INTERCUT WITH:
MACK TRUCK
Gaping, shrieking face of TRUCK DRIVER, five feet away, two car doors
locked, still 80 m.p.h., life passing before eyes. Trying to avoid
crushing
the BMW and stay in lane. SOUND of a massive gouge being opened on his
driver-side door; sparks shooting from wheel-well, BMW continues to
drag.

HUGO:
(resting one hand lazily on the gearshift)
An' look. .

(menacing, low)
I gotta 'nother bone to pick with you before we get to Cheyenne .

LEILA:
Yeah? WHAAAAAAAT MIGHT THAT BE!? (baiting him out of habit)

HUGO (returns at top of his lungs)
Don't mess with my hygiene products, do you f_cking hear me? I will
hook
your pussy up to the battery of this sucker and fry you on the hood
like an
egg!!! (laughing now, LEILA suddenly laughing with him, rubs her
crotch,
vamping)

3. EXT. ROUTE 66 EXIT RAMP. NIGHT.

Finally, miraculously, the two vehicles disengage, (no thanks to HUGO).
The
1/2 Mack Truck veers onto a grassy median and slams to a ferocious
halt,
nearly
tipping over. The BMW 238 continues lazily (60 m.p.h.) into the town of
Cheyenne. . .

Description: On the heels of 2005’s blockbuster The 40-Year-Old Virgin, writer/director Judd Apatow again mines hilarity from the relatably human in a comedy about a one-night stand with unexpected consequences: KNOCKED UP. Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy, Roswell) joins Virgin alums Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for a comic look about the best thing that will ever ruin your best-laid plans: parenthood. Allison Scott (Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby’s father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance. An overgrown kid who has no desire to settle down, Ben learns that he has a big decision to make with his kid’s mom-to-be: will he hit the road or>stay in the picture? Courting a woman you’ve just Knocked Up, however, proves to be a little difficult when the two try their hands at dating. As they discover more about one another, it becomes painfully obvious that they’re not the soul mates they’d hoped they might be. With Allison’s harried sister Debbie (Mann) and hen-pecked brother-in-law Pete (Rudd) the only parenting role models the young lovers have, things get even more confusing. Should they raise the baby together? What makes a happy lifetime partnership after all? A couple of drinks and one wild night later, they've got nine confusing months to figure it out... Whatever Happened to?: Natasha Lyonne

I used to love this chick, I remember she first popped up on my radar in the 1998 Tamara Jenkins film, The Slums of Beverly hills, where she played a slightly lesbonic adolescent coming into her own as a woman.
then she got us even more hooked, by being the best thing about the American Pie movies as the snarky, slightly lesbonic girl with all the experience and all of the answers,
and of course who could forget her role as Megan, the teenage lesbian sent to a special De-gaying camp, in the hilarious Jamie Babbit, flick But I'm a Cheerleader.
we loved her, and we wanted more.
She threw that straight to video Freeway sequel and that lame-O movie about Kiss into the mix and we still thought she was bad ass.

turns out this chick was just a bit too bad ass.
After her turn in 2004's Blade Trinity we hadn't heard much from her, We started to miss her, she wasn't popping up in as many movies anymore and I intended to find out why.
So after some detailed investigation ( Gossiping with some friends). I got the scoop on what Really happened to our old pal Natash.

Bitch is a mess!
in August 2001 she was arrested in Miami Beach for ramming her car into a street sign and then trying to flee the scene. It only got worse after that
word is that after she dated John Connor, from T-2, she got heavily into the Big H (Heroin), Ho started shooting up on the regular.
At the time she was also living in an apartment on east 18th street that was owned by actor Michael Rappaport.
Other tenants reported she was basically High all the time, Loud and Belligerent.
so after Natasha basically terrorized all of her neighbors, threatening to rape there dogs and what not
(source), bitch got kicked out, and was roaming the streets of the city homeless for awhile.
There was even word that she had veered all the way Down to crack-pipe road.
recently our dear sweet mess, popped up at New York's Beth Israel Medical center, with a case of the hepatitis C, witnesses say the bitch has a bad case of the Richies as well, Looking gaunt and sickly and that track marks are visible all over her arms
.(S) (hepatitis C is frequently contracted as a result of infected needles).

Girls been Busy,
I don't understand how you can go from being such a promising young actress, to being Homeless, roaming the streets of NY offering up sloppy blow jobs for pocket change
( I'm assuming a bitch gotta eat somehow)
Who knows maybe she still has some of that Blade Trinity money and didn't have to resort to ass selling.
whatever the case, gurl you need to get it together, Find Jesus, Islam , Tom cruise something.

Cause, "beat-down-druggie," is NOT a good look..... just ask THIS chick.
its time to clean it up, and work on that comeback, if she can do it so can you.
Those pseudo Lesbian roles aren't gonna play themselves.
I mean , lets wake up people!
Crack is soooo Whack.

Indie Pick O' The Day: Broken Flowers

Broken Flowers (2005)
Directed By Jim Jarmusch

When I first saw this movie I was at a private screening before its nationwide release and when the producer Stacey Smith presented the film to the audience, I sorta had low expectations. The producer didn't sound too enthusiastic when she presented the film, and Jim Jarmusch has a reputation for slow paced talkie movies like Coffee and Cigarettes.

However, this movie was a treat. First of all, it has a stellar cast. Bill Murray, Julie Delphy, Jeffrey Wright, Sharon Stone, Frances Conroy, Chloe Sevigny, Jessica Lange, and Tilda Swinton. Second, the story is pretty darn interesting. It's about a guy "Don Johnson" (Bill Murray) who receives a pink letter in the mail with no return address. The letter is from a former lover who he has no clue who she is, that claims that he has a 19 year old son wandering aimlessly out there looking for his father.

Jeffery Wright plays Winston, who likes the idea of playing dectective and decides to help solve the mystery of whom this former lover may possibly be. The film takes you through the journey for 2 hours of this man going back into the lives of his ex-girlfriends and you soon realize why Don either left these women or why these women left him. It has its funny moments, sad moments, and moments of surprise until the ending...

To be quite honest with you, this movie's ending is pretty black and white. You'll either love it or hate it. Lets us know what you thought.

Indie Pick 'O' the day: The Last Days Of Disco

Directed by: Whit Stillman

How do i love thee Whit? let me count the ways
though many may complain that his movies tend to be a bit too Wordy, or geared toward obnoxious soul-less self absorbed Yuppies. I prefer to see it as a commentary,
A commentary on an overly analytical psuedo intellectual Populace, that tend to speak with an authority that isnt particularly earned. due to a lack of any actual life experience to draw from.

for some reason watching people like that in action amuses me to No-end, add a gorgeous and uber catty Kate Beckinsale, a suprisingly sympathetic Chloe sevigney, Banging ass disco music and an always welcome cameo from the Luscious Jennifer Beals and you've got yourself a winner.
The Third in Stillmans' "Manhattan Trilogy", The Last days of Disco follows the lives of a group of Yupsters in the early 80's as they struggle to climb the corporate ladder by day , and search for love in the bowels of the New York city club scene by night.

with fast talking witticisms that would make the Gilmore Girls envious, Whits' gaze on these types straddles the line between glorification and parody all the while maintaining that keen sense of Awareness.
yes the Film tends to be a bit long , by the end it seems to drag on, and the characters aren't particulary likeable, they even become annoying after awhile, but if you stick with it to the credits, you will be rewarded with a pleasent little number that takes place in the subway.
Though usually the lives and Loves of the waspy types dont particularly hold my interest ( never was a fan of that Sex and the city), Whit StillMan smartly keeps his narrative focus , at just the right distance from his subjects so that the viewer doesn't end up reaching for the Cyanide pills .

so if you have about 2 hours to kill check this one out, you wont love yourself for it, but you wont hate yourself either.

FAQ's Among Filmmakers

How Do I get My Film Distributed?

When Will People Stop Writing Stories About Lindsay Lohan? umm..ok we're just kiddin about that one. But 4real, that is a question that's on alot of our minds. Including us.

Ooohh She's Mad Now!

Okay, so I don't know if yall heard about this story, but Dakota Fanning is starring in a new film currently being screened at Sundance called Hounddog. Well the movie is causing a bit of a ruckus in the indie film community because there is a "rape scene" with 12-year old Dakota. Ummm...so what's the problem? Problem is the film as of right now has no buyers. The Sundance Film Festival is a not a showcase for films, but a movie meat market to buy, sell, and later distribute independent films.

Not a good thing if no one wants to buy the damn thing. But Dakota defends her film and critics after her mother, agent, and acting coach were criticized for allowing Dakota to go through with the scene:

“When it gets to the point of attacking my mother, my agent … my teacher, who were all on the set that day, that started to make me mad. I can let other things go, but when people start to talk about my mother, like, that’s really bad in my opinion …
that’s an attack, and that’s not fair. They hadn’t seen the film. It's not a rape movie. That’s not even the point of the film.”

The film is directed by Deborah Kampmeier, who actually once taught at NYU. She also directed another controversial film that had much critical acclaim called Virgin.

Yea, but you know that if it does get its distribution (which it will) people will go to the theaters just to see the "Dakota Fanning Rape Scene". It's an issue where you feel torn. To the director it is seen as innovative and bold to have a 12 year old actress perform a rape scene, to a film critic, they find in exploitative and disgusting that the scene has to actually be re-enacted. Either way, the film is causing controversy, which means people will want to see it, just because its bein talked about. I mean after all, isn't that what Hollywood is all about...causing a controversial stir for the sake of public relations??

News Flash: JGL is HOT!

We here at NyIndieSeen, thought it was necesarry to take this time to acknowledge (the hotness that is) Joseph gordon-Levitt.

Here is a picture of the Hotness, with some weird, spider Webby things all over him.

So lets all Have a Moment...........

Thank you,

and thank you JGL for your continued Hotness, keep up the good work.

What Can't this bitch Do??

As you all know, the Sundance film festival is currently underway in Park City, Utah, and despite the celeb sight seeing, Paparazi stalk fest it has become the festival is really all about the Movies. About celebrating indie films, It is used as a showcase for independent filmmakers to Premiere there latest projects, be recognized by their peers, and hopefully get a distribution deal out of the whole thing.

Currently in contention is the new film Chapter 27
Here's the Imdb Synopsis of the film:

New York City. December 1980. Mark Chapman arrives in New York with the intent to kill John Lennon. A depressed and unstable soul, Chapman is torn between his love and awe for John Lennon's persona and his desire to kill Lennon in order to gain notoriety for himself. The story portrays Chapman's mental collapse, which is played out through his obsession with JD Salinger's classic novel 'The Catcher in the Rye', as Chapman's demons win over, and persuade him to shoot Lennon on the steps of Lennon's apartment building.

The film is written and directed by J.P. Schaefer, and stars Jordan CatalonO in a fat suit, consisting of his actual body (luckily theres no eyeliner or crappy emo music in site). But the big news is that Lindsay Lohan also stars. When I first heard this i was quite impressed that she had chosen "this Film" as her acting debut, Honestly I would have assumed that she'd be starting off with some lame O' horror movie like "I recall some shit you pulled Last Winter" or Straight to video American Pie sequel.

It impressed me she was moving on from her former employ of being the drunk skank at parties, who flashes Vag, Bangs-out Mtv reality show stars, and fights with other Drunk skanks.

That was until I was informed that this was not in fact her acting debut. that Lindsay was in fact an already established actress. racking up credits in illustrious presentations like The parent Trap, Life Size, and even a guest starring spot on the Hit series That 70's show.

Color me surprised, bitch has plenty of experience and Now she's ready to move over to the big time. We Commend you Lindsay for pulling that straw away from your nostril, Wipeing the vomit stains from your "clever catchphrase emblazoned" Tee, and sinking your teeth into an indie feature role as meaty as jared leto's wrists in this movie

Brava! Linds Brava!

Indie Seen Pick 'O' the day: Irréversible

"Le temps détruit tout - Time destroys everything "
:
Unsettling, disturbing, graphic, and completly brilliant. This 2002 french film. Follows an unforgettable and Tragic night in the life of a couple in paris.

Written and Directed by Gaspar Noé , the film tells their story in reverse order, beginning with a brutal assualt on a character involving a fire extinguisher that does not seem to let up. its a cringe worthy scene that the camera refuses to pan away from, realistic and haunting the film eventually leads us to the cause of that violent attack.

Monica belluci and Vincent Cassell star as the couple and both give geniune performances

Just to give you a taste of what your in for: it was stated by Newsweek Magazine that "this was the most walked out of movie of the year" , and of the 2,400 people at the film's Cannes premiere, 200 walked out. (Imdb)
and I have to admit that there were times where I had to look away from the screen. ( things got a bit tooo real to handle). still Ultimatly it is a rewarding film experience.

be warned, this one is not for the squeamish.

The Wedding Singer
Directed By Frank Coraci

We think this is the funniest scene in this film EVER! U gotta love the nutty Jon Lovitz line aftwerards...always a laugh out loud moment

IndieSeen Favorite: Amy Heckerling

Um...yeah? Like totally? Those are redundant phrases in the dialogue of many of Amy Heckerling's films. This Bronx-bred girl studied Film and TV at New York University and got a Masters Degree in Film from The American Film Institute. Like most of us struggling film graduates that still find themsleves doing PA work with Master's Degrees, Amy also struggled a great deal in Hollywood despite her impressive educational background.
However, she got her break in 1982 with the cult teen classic Fast Times At Ridgemont High. The film struck a chord with stoners and slutz everywhere. Of course, having Cameron Crowe as your writer does help. He also made an impact on teen romance with the hit Say Anything (aahhh the stereo scene...."In Your Eyes") ahem, sorry anywayz as we were saying, Amy Heckerling is one of the most well known and profound female directors in Hollywood. And we love the fact that she's a New Yorker. U go girl!

James Chean: An Indie Filmmaker

James Chean has spent the last 30 years making films in the US, but is now back here working on a project with respected Myanmar director U Kyee Myint. IT has been over 29 years since James Chean left Myanmar for America. He was just 14 years old at the time.

“Since my parents moved to America, I had no choice but to go with them,” he said.
It proved a fortuitous turn of events for the teenager, as by his second year there he was appearing in Chinese action films as a stunt man.
He quickly made the transition to behind the camera and by 18 he was working as a cinematographer. By 23 he had already added the titles of production assistant and director to his CV.
At 33, he has the films The Last Eve, Sunset Society, The Singer Downstairs, Silent Scream and Alibi to his name and has received mentions in US film industry bibles such as Daily Variety and Hollywood Reporter.

He followed up a stint as assistant editor at Paramount Pictures and MGM studios from 1985 to 1986 with work on music videos and commercials, then in 1996 started his own film company KYC Production.

“I wanted to make my own films so I started the production company in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Since its inception, KYC has been involved in numerous film and video projects,” he says.
With filmmaking success in the US well under his belt, he has been lured back to his place of birth by the opportunity to work with legendary Myanmar director U Kyee Myint on a film.
“I came back mainly for a visit,” he said while in Yangon earlier this month, adding that he misses his homeland.

“But I also really want to make a Myanmar movie with U Kyee Myint.”The pair met when Chean visited Myanmar 10 years ago. “I had stopped making movies for a few years,” U Kyee Myint said. The meeting with Chean inspired him to get back to work.

“When I met Mr Chean and we talked about Myanmar movies, I saw that he was really interested in making a movie in Myanmar,” he said. The pair have started working on a script. But in the meantime, Chean is off to South Korea where his film The Last Eve is being shown.
“I will be back but I can’t say exactly when yet,” he said with a smile.

Indie Pick O' The Day: You Can Count On Me

This was a a first attempt at filmmaking for Kenneth Lonergan, a Native New Yorker. He wrote and directed the film and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay. This is a movie about a brother and sister reunite years after very little communication between one another. Sammy's screw-up brother Terry (played by Mark Ruffalo) tries to patch up his past with his sister and change his future with their present relationship. Sammy (played by Laura Linney) begins cheating on her boyfriend with her new boss, the love triangle gets complicated when her boyfriend proposes marriage and the flaws that develop between both brother and sister become apparent and later addressed.

You TOO Can Be The Next Internet Celebrity!

Former Disney Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner has allied with United Talent Agency to create an online video website aimed at showcasing unknown -- and unrepresented -- talent. It will become part of Veoh, an Internet operator that Eisner has invested in. The site is expected to attract the cream of the crop of amateur filmmakers who currently display high-quality videos on YouTube.

In a statement, Veoh CEO Dimitry Shapiro said that he expected that the site will eventually become "the new gateway for talent discovery in Hollywood." Separately, today's (Monday) New York Times reported that Eisner has teamed up with Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner to develop another video-sharing website focusing on celebrities. The site, accessible via Veoh or Usmagazine.com, will principally offer content from Wenner's Us Weekly magazine, augmented by clips submitted by visitors to the site. Janice Min, editor in chief of Us Weekly, told the Times that the website will specifically target women in their 20s and 30s.

SEEN O' The Day

Nowhere (1997)
Dir. Gregg Araki

This scene is just one of many weird moments in this film. It features the "The Valley Chick Clique" with Rose McGowan, Traci Lords, and Shannen Doherty. I'm sure there was major cat fights on this set with these bitches!

Indie pick 'O' the day: Party Girl

I know, I know, its typical.. obvious even.

When you think of the "New York indie" you think of this movie.

Well at least thats what I think of when i think "Ny Indie", that and a strung out heroin addict in the middle of a dark alley ( but thats my own can of worms I gotta deal with). Actually You probably think of something completly different, maybe Kids, Annie Hall, who knows. In any event this should be the second thing you think of, or third.....at least top 15 !

This is the movie that made Parker Posey the indie darling that she is, and introduced us to her scattered and endearing acting style.

released in 1995 and becoming the first film ever to be shown in its entirity on the Internet.

Party Girl, just ooozes that indie spirit, character driven with a sense of low budget underground hipness. Daisy Von Scherler Mayer directs and smartly just seems to let Parker posey charm her way through the whole movie.

The film revolves around Parkers character ( Mary) who after getting in trouble with the law, ends up having to work as a librarian for her god-mother to pay her back for bailing her out. Mary is a new york night life scenester at heart and has to wrestle with her burning desires to drug, drink, and be fabulous and her godmothers constant finger waving dissaproval.

Parker is joined by Guillemero diaz as aspiring Dj Leo and Omar townsend as Mustafar the hot lebanese sluvaki vendor all addding solid performances.

so get into that NY spirit and check this one out.

P.s. did anybody ever see the short lived TV show spinoff of this movie that starred the girl who played Marsha in the Brady Bunch movies?, how much did that show rock! it was adorable. who do I have to blow around here to get that one released on DVD?

Victoria Linchong: A NY Indie Filmmaker

I am currently attempting to gain critical mass in order to snowball my feature film GILDED CAGE into production sometime this spring. Some nibbles but haven't hauled in any big fish yet. Just little minnows and little minnows pretending to be sharks. Berlin Film Festival just emailed me saying that I was a "top candidate" for the Berlinale Talent Campus (I can forward you their email if you want proof!) BUT... they didn't accept me in the end. Sigh. I think I have have enough of these "yes but no" letters to paper a small room. I wonder if there's any way to make hay out of Berlin saying "yes but no".

Maybe blogging it would be an idea? A bit about myself - I am a Taiwanese-American writer/director with 10 + years in experimental theater, making the transition to film. John Mayer, An Aspiring Screenwriter?

Unless you've been living under a rock, or you just don't care, Isaiah Washington (Dr. Burke) from Grey's Anatomy has been under scrutiny this week for calling T.R. Knight (George) the "F" word (the homophobic slur f-word that is). Since uttering the word not once but twice there is speculation that ABC may fire him.

Well John Mayer has put in his 2 cents about the issue and thinks that the writers of the show should have Dr. Burke come out of the closet and admit he's gay. That way Washington can be forced to play the role of a homosexual man for the duration of the TV series.

Sound clever? Perhaps. However, John Mayer has posted a sample of how HE thinks the script should be written on his blog.

The writing is actually pretty good. Is John Mayer "coming out" as a screenwriter? Is this his next career endeavor? I guess it's convienent to use this public faux pa as a way to show the public you can write for TV as well as write songs.

Hmm...take a look at the blog and tell us what U think. We think maybe John Mayer should write for GA.

SunDance Fest!

The Top 10 Films that will deliver this year at the Sundance Film Festival!

SEEN O' The Day

Clueless (1995)
Dir. Amy Heckerling

One of the funniest scenes from this film that changed the slang of Beverly Hills brats everywhere...

Indie Pick O' The Day: Mulholland Dr.

Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Dir. David Lynch
One of the most peculiar storytelling directors of our generation, David Lynch's film tells the story of a young actress who travels to Hollywood and gets involved in a dark conspiracy involving another woman who was nearly murdered. The woman now has amnesia because of a car crash. Eventually, both women are pulled into a psychotic illusion involving a dangerous blue box, a filmmaker, and a myterious nite club.

The movie takes you on a whirlwind ride of make-believe and reality and through it all you can decipher which is which in true "Lynchian" style.

Worth Checkin Out This Weekend

This is a film that consists of different stories surrounding the death of one girl. However, each story is connected to the dead girl. Yea, it does sound like another vignette of stories that are tightly weaved around one tragic incident. We've seen this formula before we know, but the ensemble cast alone makes it worth seein.

The life of a lonsome caretaker is turned upside down when she stumbles upon the body of a murdered girl. This discovery may provide closure for a forensics graduate student whose sister went missing when she was a child.

A housewife makes a disturbing connection between the body and her own husband which leads her to take dark and decisive action.

A mother desperately searches for answers about her runway daughter's life and find answers in one of her troubled friends.

A volatile young woman goes on an odeyssey to get a birthday present to her little girl.

Together these stories paint a devastating portrait of seven women who lives are linked by a single act of violence and a desire for change.

CAST: Josh Brolin, Toni Collette, James Franco, Marcia Gay Harden, Mary Beth Hurt, Piper Laurie, Brittany Murphy, Giovanni Ribisi, Mary Steenburgen, and Kerry Washington.

SEEN O' The Day

THE USUAL SUSPECTS (1995)

One of the greatest INDIE films of all time about five career crooks in what "appears" to be a random lineup.

Well this is the lineup scene that is SEEN on the movie poster of the film. I love Stevie Baldwin's part...there is a moment of humor and revelation in this scene if you know anything at all about how it ends...

Indie Pick O' The Day: Freeway (1996)

This movie is a lil fugged up. It's kinda set up like the story of Lil Red Ridin' Hood. Basically its about 15 year juvenile deliquent named Vanessa, an uneducated daughter of a drug-addicted prosititute. Her druggie Mom and StepDad get arrested. She's been tossed around in the foster care system in the past, and instead of going back again this time, she looks for her GrandMa whom she's never met and decides to live with her.

The ol' Granny lives in a trailer park and when Vanessa's car breaks down and she meets a guy named "Wolverton" (see he's the Wolf). He poses as a counselor for troubled boys, but soon Vanessa learns he's a freeway rapist and he's the talk of all the news stations. But some how the tale gets even more twisted when our Lil Red Ridin Hood aint as innocent as she seems, and maybe our rapist is a hero? The film stars Reese Witherspoon as Vanessa and Kiefer Sutherland as Wolverton.

Freeway also features two Clueless alumni: Dan Hedaya, as a police detective, and Brittany Murphy, as the disfigured lesbian who befriends Vanessa in lock-up. Michael T. Weiss, who previously appeared in gay indie Jeffrey, appears in both Freeway and its sequel, Freeway 2: Confessions of a Trickbaby.

It's a pretty interesting story of how nothing appears what it seems. Although Freeway was originally filmed for HBO, vigorously positive critical response eventually earned it a theatrical release.

We Like Tarantino So Much That...

We want to promote his producing partner Robert Rodriguez Grindhouse Trailer contest:

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival is putting out a call to filmmakers who would like to submit their best 'Grindhouse Trailer,' in honor of the April release from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, Grindhouse. A sample of the best submissions will be judged by Rodriguez himself, and presented during SXSW, on March 11, 2007.

Filmmakers have a deadline of February 12 to submit their 'Grindhouse Trailer' (no longer than two minutes in length) to SXSW. The trailer should be made for a fictional feature-film, just like those being made by celebrity directors Eli Roth and Rob Zombie for Grindhouse. From those submissions, Rodriguez will determine the best of the bunch, and it will screen during a special presentation entitled 'Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse 101' on Sunday, March 11. IndieSeen Favorite: Quentin Tarantino

Ok, here's a director that just makes us wet...
Quentin Tarantino is the most respected, prominent, and talented independent filmmakers of our generation. He started out as the nerdy video store clerk that would spend 90% of his time watching movies, ya know...that guy. But that guy has become one of the most prolific directors of the 21st century. It all started out with this low budget INDIE film called Reservoir Dogs. He took the money he made from selling the screenplay True Romance a mere 25K at the time, to make the feature length film.

Well you know the story....it's all about who you know. Tarantino was pals with producing partner Lawrence Bender and Bender was taking an acting class at the time. Coincidentally, Harvey Keitel's wife taught the class and and Bender mentioned his friend just wrote a great script about a jewelry heist. Keitel's wife loved the script and felt confident enough to let her husband read it too. Keitel was SO impressed that not only did he decide to star in the film, but he also wanted to executive produce it. DAMN!

Reservoir Dogs became the breakout film of 1992 and won several awards. It was well received at all of the major film festivals, from Sundance to Cannes and it became one of the most innovative and influential indie film of the decade. Tarantino has gone on to make films such as Pulp Fiction in which the film was nominated for an Oscar and Tarantino walked away with an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Movies like Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Sin City, are movies that lay indelibly printed on the conscience of ALL filmmakers. Now he has another collaboration with friend and producing partner Robert Rodriguez in the new film due out April of this year called Grindhouse. This guy keeps making hit after hit and has an unconventional way of storytelling that has become an anomaly in cinema. He is truly now an icon for every individual who wants to become a great director.

Tarantino once said:

"Movies are my religion and God is my patron. I'm lucky enough to be in the position where I don't make movies to pay for my pool. When I make a movie, I want it to be everything to me; like I would die for it."

SEEN O' The Day

Do The Right Thing
Dir. Spike Lee (1989)

It's one of most innovative true to life scenes in the film where five characters of different ethnic backgrounds, spread racial stereotypes against one another in this montage.

IndieSeen Pick 'o' the day: The Rules of Attraction

Directed by prolific writer director Roger Avery, the guy who cowrote PulpFiction and helped ingrain Quentin Tarintino into our collective consciousness, this undderrated 2002 flick is based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis.
the movie is essentially about a group of college students Sean bateman played by James ( the Forehead) vanderbeek, uhm... that dude who played Dawson,
Lauren Hynde played by uber stylish lisa bonet look alike Shannyn Sossaman, and Paul Denton, played by pretty boy Ian somerhalder.

The film, like the book, is about... well attraction. its about unrequited obsession about that period we go through in college when we are trying to find ourselves, and are looking for acceptance in others, in relationships, believing that if we could only have that one relationship that one person "everything would be alright" , creating these objects of lust that dont really exist by projecting this false persona onto that lust object when in actuality the Fantasy is far from the reality.

Using revolutionary camera effects and a liberal story telling. Avery manages to nail the Schizophrenic , often times dizzying changes of character narration that is prominent in the Novel , the characters represent an Icy modern numbness that permeates through todays young adults. They are all Desperate to Feel somthing, and the Isolation and emotional distance is felt in the way he has the characters interact or uses the framing of the camera or cuts the scenes.
I dont know, just watch the damn movie its good.
I hate it when people review a movie and tell you that its not as good as the book and that you should go read the book , and your like "Well if I wanted to read a book, I would read a book. But i wanna see a damn movie and chill on the couch with some popcorn and soda in a darkened room and be entertained for a fucking hour, so lay off!"

Well there's no need to get so Hositle, but in this case you should read the book.
if you cant be bothered, then defiently check this Flick out, sure to be a modern classic.

Oh yeah.. and you get to see Dawson make out with a dude

Just For Fun

NYIndieSeen wants to do an awards show too!

Here are the WORST performances and Films of 2006!! That's right, we think these actors SUCKED!

Worst Performance By A Male Actor

Sly Stallone Rocky Balboa

We say this for 2 reasons: 1. He should have never remade this film at the age of 113 years old.

2. We no longer understand what this man is saying. The whole slurred speech thing is no longer sexy and appealing, its just now a sign of old age.

Worst Performance By A Male Actor (Supporting Role)

Mos Def 16 Blocks

Sorry bruh, you've been good in alot of movies...but this ain't one of em. His accent in this movie was one of the most AGGRAVATING we've ever heard. Mos was tryin too hard in this one. Was he tryin to get an Oscar? Or just tryin to stay in character by being the ANNOYING thorn in Bruce Willis' side??

Worst Performance By A Female Actress

Beyonce Knowles Dreamgirls

Yeah yeah. We know she got nominated for a Globe and all that so there fore she is a "bonafide" legitimate actress....hell to tha naw! Any role, where you are playing YOURSELF and YOU really aint all that...your are qualified to be a BAD actress. So congrats on your NYIndieSeen Award Beyonce!!!

Worst Performance By A Female Actress (Supporting Role)

Ashanti John Tucker Must Die

Who told Ashanti that she should act?? Can we shoot that person now? We love you Ashanti but stick to singing....cuz we know at least you can make more hitz that way.

Worst Film Of The Year

Superman Returns

One of the most anticipated films of the year became the most dissapointing. The casting was horrible, the story was lacking, and that damn Kryptonite curl was gettin on our last nerves! His curl managed to stay crisp and petrified through the entire film...maybe the movie shoulda been about the Kryptonite Kurl.
