My New TV Addiction: Nip/Tuck

For some of you that actually read this blog and know a bit about it's history....occasionally I "blog-out" about my favorite TV show in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD: My Grey's :)

BUT NOW....I have a new crack addiction. I mean really this show is like crack for me. I have to have a hit. And I went so far as to BUY all 4 seasons of the show becuz its that damn good. Nip/Tuck was birthed by Ryan Murphy and has aired on the FX network for the past 5 years. I know I'm a little late to the game, but the show is really the shit. Plus they use the word shit! Like...alot. The verbal profanity is not the reason I like this show it's actually a man who I worship and adore: CHRISTIAN TROY. You gotta see Christian work his magic from episode to episode. He's the mack. He can get any woman, anytime, anywhere. He's an amazing surgeon, he's ripped, and I've seen his ass more times than Ron Jeremy's and trust me...that's a MAJOR improvement...let me just tell you. For those of you living under rocks that know absolutely nothing about this show, Nip/Tuck is about two plastic surgeons. Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are running a partnership in Miami, Florida with different issues to life.

Sean is a wishy-washy, weak-kneed, family man who distances himself with work to avoid his dysfunctional home life which includes his needy and spiteful wife Julia, his rebellious teenage son Matt and young daughter Annie. The more slicker Christian is an arrogant, narcissistic, unethical, ladies man who worships wine, women, and the all mighty dollar, and will do just about anything to get what he wants (lie, cheat, steal, blackmail and seduce)and has no qualms about practically anything.

In Season 5 of the series the two doctors moved their practice to Los Angeles and now work on a Grey's Anatomish type series drama as medical consultants. Currently though Sean McNamara has asked to be a series regular on the show. Of course the cocky-Christian is pretty pissed off about it.... I am deprived on my Grey's now becuz of the Writer's Strike and I have a few more episodes to go on Nip/Tuck...including watching the rest of Season 4. This is an indie-off course topic which is why it's been archived that way. Any show that has raunchy sex on EVERY episode, serial psychopaths, out of this world surgeries (like getting a woman's clit replaced), and seeing Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh's ass every five minutes...is definitely something worth blogging about. Nuff said.

Below is a video I found on YouTube of Dr. Christian Troy at his "best".

Fresh Blood On The Indie Circuit: Diablo Cody

Title: Diablo Cody

Stats: Born June 14th 1978. Graduated from the University of Iowa.

Why NYIndieSeen cares: Cuz she's a former stripper turned screenwriter!

With absolutely no other screenwriting credits prior to birthing the Golden Globe nominated film Juno, Diablo Cody born as Brook Busey-Hunt, worked formerly as a stripper in Minneapolis. She wrote a day to day account of her life of her experiences in the seedy world of exotic dancing in the 2006 memoir, Candy Girl: A Year in The Life of an Unlikely Stripper.

While still stripping, Cody began writing for City Pages, an alternative Twin Cities weekly newspaper. Cody drew literary fans and received accolades for puff-free accounts and columns, with special emphasis on critiques of society and popular culture. In one instance, she humorously referred to her time at the Village Voice-owned newspaper as "yellow journalism". She left City Pages just before it changed editorial hands. Cody has since written for the now-defunct Jane magazine.

After completion of the book, Cody was encouraged by Mason Novick, the manager who helped her secure a publisher for the book, to write a screenplay. Within months she wrote Juno, a surprisingly tender coming-of-age story about a Minnesota teenager's unplanned pregnancy. The Jason Reitman-directed comedy stars Ellen Page and Michael Cera.

Fresh Blood On The Indie Circuit: Jess Weixler

Stats: Born June 1981. Attended Julliard.

Why NYIndieSeen Cares: Cuz she's in a movie about a girl with a va-jay jay that bites!

Jess Weixler received the Special Jury Prize for Teeth for a juicy and jaw dropping performance at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival last month. Teeth is about a high school student who works hard at suppressing her budding sexuality by being the local chastity group's most "active" participant.

Her task is made even more difficult by her bad boy stepbrother Brad's increasingly provocative behavior at time. A stranger to her own body, Dawn discovers she has a toothed vagina when she becomes the object of violence. As she struggles to comprehend her uniqueness, Dawn experiences both pitfalls and the power of being a living example of the "vagina dentata" myth.

I guess that's why her performance was "jaw dropping and juicy"

Ok, that's a lil gross, but this is an actress worth SEEIN. She's only 25 and already the talk of all the major film festival circuits. She is in the upcoming film Goodbye Baby starring Alan Ruck and currently filming Periphery. Look out Scarlett Johansson, this girl is on fire!

Will This Stike Affect Indie Filmmakers?

'Perfect Storm' of Strikes Could Cripple Film Industry
By TRAVIS PANTIN

Special to the Sun

December 13, 2007

As New York City's film industry suffers from the shocks of the writers' strike, even bigger storms may be looming: In July, the Screen Actors Guild and the Directors Guild of America are expected to lead strikes of their own, which would immediately halt all filmmaking and could threaten the survival of scores of New York's independent film companies.

In preparation for a possible SAG and DGA strike, many Los Angeles-based studios have been rushing to get their filming done before July. That increase in demand has allowed actors to raise their fees, making those who run the less wealthy New York indie film companies worry that they might have to halt production until actors become more affordable.

"We are not the sort of companies with very deep pockets that would be able to sustain ourselves through a very long cessation of work," a co-owner of New York-based indie film company Belladonna Productions, Linda Moran, said. "Some companies might have to shut down."

About a third of all independent films are produced in New York City at 145 studios and stages, according to a 2005 report by the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corp. The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting calculates that the film industry as a whole employs 100,000 New Yorkers.

In the face of such strong competition, New York's indie filmmakers are finding it especially difficult to convince talent to sacrifice higher pay for an opportunity to work on more creative independent projects.

"Even the big actors at some point want to make a decent indie film, and normally they do it for very little money," the producer for New York-based Vox3 Films, Andrew Fierberg, said. Right now, though, actors are trying to grab as many of the higher paying jobs as possible, in order to put some extra cash in the bank in case a strike keeps them from working. "Lower-budget films, even the really good ones, become less of a priority in that kind of crunch," according to a producer for Open City Films in New York, Jason Kliot. "It's harder for us to get the agents' and the actors' attention when they're thinking about these basic livelihood issues."
