INDUSTRIANCE: The Livelong Day

This Saturday, July 19, on the roof of the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus, Brooklyn, Rooftop will be presenting the second installment of our "INDUSTRIANCE" series, "The Livelong Day." This series presents films, discussions, installations andmore about the changing landscape in industry, architecture, agriculture, labor, and related fields. The night starts at 8:30pm with live music from Pwrfl Power and the films start at 9:00, all presented in partnership with IFC.com, New York Magazine, and XO Projects.

The films show that for some folks, work is their passion, and they’re willing to lose money to save a dying industry like drive-in movies, orspend their free time nostalgically playing at a children’s version oftheir profession, like the railroaders who maintain model trains. For other folks, work is a struggle, as white-collar wimps jostle for jobs and harried commuters are heckled by the very infrastructure that supports them.

More info can be found here. One of the films being screened is available for viewing now as part ofour partnership with IFC.com--we upload 3 short films every week from Junethrough September. "Dock 5" is a beautifully animated short about thedisappearing profession of the dockworker, presented in a fast-paced worldof light, shadow, and jazz.Check it out here, and read about it on the blog.
