IndieSeen Favorite: Amy Heckerling

Um...yeah? Like totally? Those are redundant phrases in the dialogue of many of Amy Heckerling's films. This Bronx-bred girl studied Film and TV at New York University and got a Masters Degree in Film from The American Film Institute. Like most of us struggling film graduates that still find themsleves doing PA work with Master's Degrees, Amy also struggled a great deal in Hollywood despite her impressive educational background.
However, she got her break in 1982 with the cult teen classic Fast Times At Ridgemont High. The film struck a chord with stoners and slutz everywhere. Of course, having Cameron Crowe as your writer does help. He also made an impact on teen romance with the hit Say Anything (aahhh the stereo scene...."In Your Eyes") ahem, sorry anywayz as we were saying, Amy Heckerling is one of the most well known and profound female directors in Hollywood. And we love the fact that she's a New Yorker. U go girl!
