80's Nostaligia Time: Casual Sex?

Remember that movie Casual Sex? Caught it on HBO the other day and I gotta say, this movie was slightly ahead of its time back in 88 when it was made. Cuz it speak volumes to the anorexic dating crisis among women today. It's really hard to find a man these days, let's see women have a few obstacles in their way like....HIV/AIDS, downlow brothaz, ratio of gay men to straight women in Manhattan, flaky guys, creeps, assholes, jerks, morons, one timers, fetish fiends, soccer players, brainacs, dykes posing as men, and last but certainly not least....the ultimate NICE GUY. What do women have left to find? Where can she find Mr. Right? Well the film Casual Sex? is about two girlfriends (not lesbians) who decide to go to a Health Spa retreat to not only find the right guy but to find themselves.


Love is found in the least likely of places and people in this 80's comedy starring Lea Thompson, Victoria Jackson, and Andrew Dice Clay....yea, that guy. Whatever happened to him anyway??. It's an 80's flick so expect a little campiness and cheese, but it's good for single women who really are having a hard time in the dating circuit. Especially women who tend to be so damn picky. The film was directed by a chick and written by chicks. Pretty cool stuff huh? Not sure if this is an indie...but it's an 80's classic.

Ugly Sexy: Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro is the epitomy of ugly sexy.

Ya know that category of men who are kinda grimy and ruff at times, but can clean up real well and the sexiness comes thru?

Or those guys that look ruff as hell, but still have that sexy swagger and don't even try hard to do it?

Benicio is one of those guys.

He was the clean cut white collar personal assistant to Kevin Spacey in Swimming With The Sharks.

Then he was Benny, the friend of the heroin-addicted painter in Basquiat

Then he played mumbling thief Fred Fenster in The Usual Suspects.

We certainly can't forget his performance as good cop with a conscience in Traffic.

However, one of his most strongest performances to date was the guilt ridden drunk driver in 21 Grams.

We love Benicio. He's won an Oscar, Golden Globe, and not one but TWO Independent Spirit Awards.

Did you see him in Things We Lost In The Fire??? He was soooooo sexy. He may have another Oscar on his hands too becuz of that performance. Does anyone know if this man is single? FINE THANG that he is....he could get it.

We not only love him because he makes for good eye candy. But we love his style, acting, and humility as an actor in Hollywood. Keep on keepin on.

You Ain't Real

This is a a good movie. It's kinda sad too cuz I actually know kids like this. Privledged kids tryin to act all hard in their upper crust-spoon fed lives and think by going into the "hood" they can prove their worth in the world. This scene is between Freddy Rodriguez (yumz) and Anne Hathaway (who gets nude in the flick). Freddy tell her that she aint and she's just a wannabee for trying to hang out in East L.A. when her home is Pacific Palisades.

Did I mention JGL is in this film too??

Indie Pick O' The Day: Shadowboxer

I loved this movie! Okay, besides looking at an oil-glistened booty from Cuba Gooding Jr and not too mention full frontal of Stephen Dorff doin it doggy style this is actually a very witty film with fully developed characters and a substantial plot. Yepperoonies!!!

Basically ol' Cuba Goody is a hitman along with his stepmother/lover Helen Mirren. yes, that's right...she's his stepmom AND his girlfriend. Anyways, the two of the are killers for hire and Mirren's character is hit with some unfortunate news that she is dying of cancer. After years of killing people, Mirren suddenly grows a conscience when she is hired to kill the wife of a crime boss who just so happens to be preggers (that's pregnant yall). The wife is the hot n sexy Vanessa Ferlito, who I TOTALLY loved in Death Proof.

Mirren decides to have mercy on her soul and not kill the pregnant wife, but instead take her in and put her into hiding. She even decides to help take care of her kid!!! Well the story of events of this film evolve over the years and the plot starts to get really interesting!!

Ummm...oh yea, did I mention "the hotness that is" JGL is in this film?? Oh yea, and lemme say he really is hot. He plays a doctor to the crime boss and is responsible for helping the injured clients who find themselves getting shot in the foot by their crime bosses. JGL's girlfriend is voluptuous funny lady Ms Mo'Nique which I find to be incredibly bizarre...yet sexy! My favorite scene is when JGL gets caught "tipping the velvet" with another chick and Monique finds them in that uncompromising position. HOTNESS!!!!! JGL doing his thang...wowz. I think I rewound that scene like 5 times.

Anywayz, the film is directed by none other than producer Lee Daniels who produced Monster's Ball. My aunt claims to know his mom...hey Aunt Faye give me the hookup!!!

Sorry to blast on a Spike Lee film becuz I freakin LOVE his work, but this film sucked ass. This movie was horrible. I only decided to watch this film because Spike Lee directed it. After seeing it, I question why he was even attached to this production in the first place??

I can't believe he was co-writer of this script! Was this a desperate attempt to write a film against type. Was he sick of being labeled as the angry black militant filmmaker?? The plot was horrible, the characters were typecast, and they were ALL way too stereotypical. I thought this film's theme was about morality in ethics and in fact its the complete opposite. And what fug was that ending about???

Why would lesbians choose to have sex to conceive a child when in vitro fertilization is ready and available? The Fatima character (played by the beautifully talented Kerry Washington) is clearly confused about her sexuality first of all. She claims to no longer love the protagonist (played by Anthony Mackie), but she constantly works her way back into his life and uses this baby-making business plan as a way to see him and have contact with him again. Then she kisses him and makes love to him like she was dying for it when she does try for a baby. I just didn't get this film. What was this film's message? Why was this film even made? What a waste of celluloid. I think I like the old militant films that Spike Lee used to make. I miss those. Don't waste your time on this flick.

Spend your time on a better Anthony Mackie film like Brother to Brother, Half Nelson, or We Are Marshall. This movie is a stinker.

I'm startin to get sick of all these trailer recuts that have a gay theme goin on. I mean it's like beatin a dead horse at this point don't ya think? But I gotta admit, this one made me laugh out loud and its cut together pretty well.

My favorite part is at the end with the trailer credit and who is listed as the director. Funny shtuff!

Indie Pick O' The Day: The Lookout

"I wake up. Turn off the alarm. Look outside so I know what to wear. I took a shower... with soap. Then I shave. Sometimes I cry for no reason. I wake up. I get dressed. I take my meds. I eat breakfast and I don't read the paper, it confuses me, which makes me mad. I wake up."

I know, I know this is just another excuse for us to rant and rave about our JGL but we can't help it! This is a kick ass movie! The Lookout is about poor Chris Pratt who finds himself in a devastating car accident that leaves him with a life long brain injury. He only remembers bits and pieces of moments at a time, and has to write down everything in order to commit it to memory.

Chris finds himself being taken advantage of when he is approached by Gary Spargo (played by Matthew Goode). Gary lets Chris in on a little secret---"wanna rob a bank?" Chris finds himself at caught between a rock and a hard place when he ponders whether he should go with the heist or let well enough alone.

Jeff Daniels and Isla Fisher also co-star in this wild ride crime thriller. The script is by seasoned screenwriter Scott Frank who wrote Minority Report and Out Of Sight. This is Frank's directorial debut in this film.

Ummm can I just say something??? Will someone give this kid an Oscar already? He is such an underrated actor!!! Let's get scrubs like Paul Walker off the screen and add more JGL to the movie theaters!!

Before Brokeback there was Idaho. This is the classic scene with Keanu Reeves (back when he could act) and River Phoenix (R.I.P) sitting in front of the campfire discussing their home lives. However, in this scene Mike (played by Phoenix) pours his heart out to Scott (Reeves) and admits that he is in love. According to IMDB this campfire speech was actually written by River Phoenix himself...

Indie Pick O' The Day: Shortbus

John Cameron Mitchell decides to go out of the box and direct a film about New Yorkers discovering their sexual awakenings. That's different right? No other filmmaker has ever gone to such depths to show a narrative about horny New Yorkers gettin it on with other horny New Yorkers? Well okay, maybe it HAS been done before, but Mitchell asked his cast members to have unsimulated sex on screen to make this not just another sappy-New York-sexually frustrated-commitmentphobia-type of flick. Shew!


Shortbus is a film about a place in the city aptly called....Shortbus! It's a sexy skin party where couples, singles, trannies, hipsters, queers, punks, preps, geeks, goths, and the like go to get their freak on! The main character Sofia ironically a sex therapist is pre-orgasmic...yikes!!! Yea, we never heard of the term pre-orgasmic before either...and thank God for that!!! Basically poor Sofia has never experience an orgasm before...double yikes!!! POOR BABY!!! Sofia finds herself on a quest and becomes sexually awakened thanks to a cute gay couple by the name of Jamie and James who are having their own sexual issues in their relationship. James wants Jamie to invite a threesome into their mix but James has an ulterior motive that could have critical ramifications.

Meanwhile Sofia is invited by James and Jamie to go to Shortbus and experience from others what it is like to have an orgasm since her husband Rob is doing a shitty job at it. Sofia meets Justin, (who plays himself) who is the hostess of the Shortbus parties. Justin Bonds is such a delight and brings so much such humor and luminance to the film. Apparently during auditioning and casting, any interested actors were to submit a 10-minute video of themselves describing an important sexual experience. The director received approximately 500 tapes. On the DVD they show the process of how these actors were chosen for the film. Get paid to get laid??? I'm in! To make the actors more comfortable, the director and the cameramen were stripped naked while filming the orgy scene. What a fun production to have worked on!!

Interestin stuff....now where is the REAL Shortbus around here??
